Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in North Carolina?
Firms with documented H-1B sponsorship activity for architectural and engineering roles in North Carolina include Kimley-Horn, Woolpert, HDR, and AECOM, all of which maintain significant North Carolina operations. Large commercial developers and university facilities departments in the Research Triangle and Charlotte metro have also filed Labor Condition Applications for architectural engineering positions. Sponsorship patterns vary by office size and project pipeline.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for architectural engineers in North Carolina, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or a closely related field. Some candidates transition from F-1 OPT or STEM OPT while employed. The O-1A is occasionally pursued by engineers with an exceptional publication or project portfolio, though it requires substantial documented achievement.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Charlotte and the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Research Triangle account for the largest share of architectural engineer sponsorship activity in North Carolina. Charlotte's commercial real estate growth drives demand at firms and developer-side teams, while the Triangle's concentration of universities and tech campuses generates institutional and campus design work. Greensboro and Winston-Salem have a smaller but active market tied to healthcare facility and industrial projects.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have indicated openness to visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify architectural engineer positions in North Carolina without sorting through listings that exclude international candidates. You can search by state and role type to see current openings in Charlotte, Raleigh, and other North Carolina metros. Reviewing employer H-1B filing history alongside active listings helps prioritize firms with a real sponsorship track record.
What should architectural engineers know about visa sponsorship in North Carolina's job market?
North Carolina's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions are determined by the Department of Labor based on the specific metropolitan area, so wage expectations differ between Charlotte and smaller markets like Asheville or Fayetteville. Employers must file a certified Labor Condition Application before sponsoring an H-1B, and the process timeline means most firms plan sponsorship months in advance. Candidates with professional engineer licensure or LEED credentials may be more competitive for roles where employers are willing to sponsor.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
