Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in Massachusetts?
Engineering and design consultancies with Massachusetts offices are among the most active sponsors for architectural engineers. Firms such as Arup, WSP, Thornton Tomasetti, and Simpson Guthrie & Heger have sponsored H-1B workers in building systems and structural roles. Large general contractors and owner-representative firms overseeing hospital and university campus projects in the Boston area also appear regularly in Department of Labor disclosure data for architectural engineering positions.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most widely used visa for architectural engineers in Massachusetts, covering roles in structural, MEP, and building enclosure engineering that require a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. The O-1A is an option for engineers with a documented record of exceptional achievement. Some Canadian and Mexican nationals working in qualifying engineering specialties may be eligible for TN status, which does not require lottery selection.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest concentration of architectural engineering sponsorship activity in the state, driven by ongoing healthcare, life sciences, and higher education construction. The Route 128 corridor, including Waltham and Burlington, also hosts engineering consultancies and corporate campus projects. Worcester has a smaller but growing market tied to its medical and university sector, and Springfield sees periodic activity from public infrastructure programs.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters architectural engineer roles in Massachusetts by employers with a history of visa sponsorship. Rather than sorting through general job listings, you can search by role, state, and sponsorship status in one place. Migrate Mate surfaces firms that have filed Labor Condition Applications or H-1B petitions for architectural engineering positions, which is a practical starting point for targeting your applications in Massachusetts.
Are there state-specific considerations for architectural engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a high cost of living, which influences the Department of Labor prevailing wage calculations that employers must meet when filing a Labor Condition Application for H-1B workers. This means sponsored roles typically carry compensation benchmarked to local market rates, not national averages. The state's dense concentration of research universities, including MIT and Harvard, also creates a pipeline of international graduates who enter the architectural engineering job market and compete for the same sponsorship-eligible positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
