Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in Oregon?
Portland-based engineering and architecture firms are the most active sponsors for architectural engineer roles in Oregon. Companies like KPFF Consulting Engineers, ZGF Architects, Mead & Hunt, and OBEC Consulting Engineers have histories of sponsoring H-1B visa workers in design and engineering disciplines. Large general contractors working on Oregon's infrastructure and commercial development projects also periodically sponsor international candidates for qualifying architectural engineering positions.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architectural engineers in Oregon, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or a closely related field. Canadian and Mexican nationals may pursue TN visa status under the engineer category, which offers a faster pathway without lottery exposure. Australian citizens should consider the E-3 visa, which has no annual cap and no lottery.
Which cities in Oregon have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Portland accounts for the large majority of architectural engineer sponsorship activity in Oregon, driven by its concentrated cluster of architecture and structural engineering firms, plus ongoing urban transit and commercial development. Salem sees demand tied to state government and institutional construction. Eugene has activity connected to University of Oregon projects and regional infrastructure. Bend is an emerging market as population growth accelerates commercial and residential development.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for architectural engineer roles in Oregon without manually screening each posting. The platform surfaces employers who have active sponsorship programs, which saves significant time compared to applying broadly. Focusing your search on Portland-headquartered engineering consultancies and multi-disciplinary design firms will return the highest concentration of Oregon-based sponsorship opportunities for architectural engineers.
Are there state-specific considerations for architectural engineers seeking sponsorship in Oregon?
Oregon requires structural engineers performing certain licensed functions to hold a Professional Engineer license issued by the Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying. International candidates on H-1B or other work visas can pursue licensure, but employers sponsoring you will expect degree credentials that meet Oregon's educational requirements. Portland's seismic zone classification also means firms frequently prioritize candidates with structural and seismic design expertise, which strengthens sponsorship cases for those specializations.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
