Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in New Jersey?
Engineering and design firms with established New Jersey offices are the most consistent sponsors for architectural engineers. HNTB, WSP, Jacobs Engineering, Thornton Tomasetti, and Gensler have all filed H-1B petitions for engineering roles in the state. Large construction management firms and government contractors working on NJ Transit and Port Authority projects also sponsor regularly, given the specialized technical qualifications these roles require.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for architectural engineers in New Jersey, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or a closely related field. Some candidates also enter through the O-1A for those with exceptional ability, or the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals. Employer-sponsored green card pathways through EB-2 or EB-3 are also pursued after initial H-1B placement.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Newark and Jersey City generate the highest concentration of architectural engineering sponsorship activity in New Jersey, driven by large commercial, transit, and mixed-use development projects. The Route 1 corridor through Edison, New Brunswick, and Princeton hosts significant engineering firm offices and institutional clients. Parsippany and Iselin are also notable hubs, with several multi-disciplinary engineering consultancies headquartered there that hire internationally for project and design roles.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for architectural engineer roles in New Jersey without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can browse by role and state to surface openings at firms already active in the New Jersey market. This is particularly useful for H-1B cap-subject applicants who need to identify employers with a demonstrated history of filing petitions for engineering positions.
Are there any state-specific considerations for architectural engineers seeking sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey requires licensure through the State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors for engineers practicing independently, though most sponsored roles at large firms are structured to allow unlicensed engineers to work under a licensed professional's supervision. The state's proximity to New York City also means some employers file petitions for New Jersey-based roles but expect candidates to work across both markets. New Jersey's active university pipeline, particularly from Rutgers and NJIT, creates competitive hiring but also sustains consistent employer engagement with international graduates on OPT.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
