Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in Maryland?
Firms with documented H-1B sponsorship history for architectural engineering roles in Maryland include AECOM, Jacobs, WSP USA, and Whitman, Requardt and Associates. Federal contractors and engineering consultancies operating near the DC metro corridor tend to sponsor most frequently, given the volume of government-funded infrastructure and facilities work requiring licensed engineering talent.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in Maryland?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architectural engineers in Maryland, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in architectural or civil engineering. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify under the TN visa. Those with extraordinary ability in the field may also explore the O-1A category.
Which cities in Maryland have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Baltimore is Maryland's primary hub for architectural engineering employment, with the largest concentration of engineering firms, architecture practices, and infrastructure contractors. Rockville, Bethesda, and Greenbelt also see consistent hiring activity due to their proximity to federal agencies and research institutions in the DC metro area. Annapolis generates periodic opportunities tied to state government and defense-adjacent projects.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can search architectural engineer roles in Maryland without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces openings from firms with active H-1B filing histories, which is particularly useful in Maryland where federal contractor pipelines and engineering consultancies drive most international hiring activity.
Are there state-specific considerations for architectural engineers seeking sponsorship in Maryland?
Maryland's density of federal contractors means many architectural engineering roles involve security clearance requirements, which can complicate or delay sponsorship for non-citizens. The state also has a strong university pipeline through the University of Maryland, which feeds local firms with OPT candidates. Engineers pursuing licensure should note that Maryland's Board for Professional Engineers sets its own PE examination and registration standards.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
