Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in Delaware?
Larger engineering and design firms with Delaware operations are the most consistent sponsors, including AECOM, Jacobs, and WSP. Corporate campuses in the Wilmington area also generate demand through facilities and capital projects teams. Firms working on state infrastructure contracts and mixed-use developments in Newark tend to file H-1B petitions most regularly for architectural engineer roles.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for architectural engineers in Delaware, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or a closely related field. Candidates from Australia may also pursue the E-3 visa. Those already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT, including STEM OPT extensions, often use that authorization while securing H-1B sponsorship.
Which cities in Delaware have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington is Delaware's primary hiring hub for architectural engineers, driven by its concentration of corporate offices, financial institutions with large facilities teams, and proximity to major Mid-Atlantic infrastructure corridors. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, supports a secondary market through research facilities and campus construction projects. Dover sees more limited activity, mostly tied to state government and military-adjacent projects at Dover Air Force Base.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship and lets you filter architectural engineer roles by state, so you can focus on Delaware employers actively hiring foreign nationals. Because sponsorship history and willingness vary significantly by firm, using a platform like Migrate Mate that surfaces sponsoring employers directly saves considerable time compared to screening general job listings manually.
Are there state-specific considerations for architectural engineers seeking sponsorship in Delaware?
Delaware's small geographic footprint means most architectural engineering work is tied to a handful of industry clusters: corporate real estate, higher education facilities, and public infrastructure. Employers filing H-1B petitions must pay prevailing wages as determined by the Department of Labor for the Wilmington-Newark metropolitan area, which is classified within the broader Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metro. Candidates with licensure progress or NCARB documentation often stand out given the technically regulated nature of architectural engineering work.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
