Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in Pennsylvania?
Firms with documented H-1B sponsorship histories in Pennsylvania's architectural engineering space include AECOM, Thornton Tomasetti, Pennoni Associates, and Burns Engineering. Large construction and engineering consultancies operating out of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh account for a significant share of filings. University facilities departments, particularly at Penn State and Drexel, have also sponsored architectural engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architectural engineers in Pennsylvania, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or a closely related field. Candidates with a master's degree may benefit from the advanced degree exemption during the H-1B cap selection process. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose roles meet the qualifying engineer classification.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia generates the highest concentration of architectural engineering sponsorship opportunities in Pennsylvania, driven by ongoing commercial development, transit infrastructure projects, and a dense cluster of engineering consultancies. Pittsburgh follows, supported by its healthcare construction boom and university expansion projects. Harrisburg and State College also produce consistent demand through government facilities work and Penn State's campus operations.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify Pennsylvania employers actively hiring architectural engineers who require sponsorship. Rather than sorting through postings that don't confirm sponsorship, you can browse roles already tagged by visa type and state. Migrate Mate is particularly useful for narrowing results to firms with documented sponsorship histories in Pennsylvania's engineering sector.
What should architectural engineers know about Pennsylvania's hiring market before applying?
Pennsylvania employers filing H-1B petitions for architectural engineers must meet prevailing wage requirements set by the Department of Labor for the specific metropolitan area, whether Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, or a smaller market. Candidates with licensure progress toward a Professional Engineer designation, or documented experience with building information modeling, tend to stand out. The state's concentration of healthcare and higher education clients creates consistent demand for specialists in those facility types.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
