Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in Michigan?
Firms with a track record of sponsoring architectural engineers in Michigan include SmithGroup, Harley Ellis Devereaux, AECOM, Ghafari Associates, and Walbridge. Larger architecture and engineering firms are generally more prepared to navigate the H-1B petition process than smaller regional studios, which may lack in-house immigration infrastructure.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architectural engineers in Michigan, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or a closely related field. Candidates with extraordinary recognition in the field may also pursue the O-1A. Canadians and Mexicans may qualify under TN status in certain engineering subcategories.
Which cities in Michigan have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding metro area, including Southfield and Troy, account for the largest concentration of architectural engineering employers in Michigan. Ann Arbor draws demand tied to University of Michigan research facilities and campus projects. Grand Rapids has grown steadily as a secondary hub, particularly for firms working on healthcare and commercial construction projects.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse architectural engineer roles in Michigan without sorting through employers who don't sponsor. The platform surfaces positions from firms already engaged in the H-1B process, which saves significant time compared to applying broadly and discovering sponsorship limitations late in the hiring process.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for architectural engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Michigan follows federal prevailing wage rules under the H-1B program, with wage levels set by the Department of Labor for the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn and Grand Rapids metropolitan areas separately. Architectural engineers tied to state-funded infrastructure or public university projects should confirm that their prospective employer is eligible to serve as an H-1B petitioner, as some public entities have different sponsorship structures.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
