Which companies sponsor visas for data engineers in Texas?
Several large employers in Texas have consistent H-1B filing histories for data engineering roles. These include Dell Technologies and NXP Semiconductors in Austin, AT&T and American Airlines in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and ExxonMobil and Chevron in Houston. Enterprise software firms, financial services companies, and mid-size tech startups across the state also regularly sponsor data engineers, particularly those with experience in cloud platforms, pipeline architecture, and distributed systems.
Which visa types are most common for data engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for data engineers in Texas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT frequently transition to H-1B through Texas-based employers. The L-1B intracompany transfer visa is also relevant for engineers moving within multinational companies with Texas offices.
Which cities in Texas have the most data engineer sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads the state for data engineer sponsorship volume, driven by a dense concentration of tech companies and high-growth startups. Dallas-Fort Worth is close behind, with strong demand from financial services, telecom, and enterprise technology firms. Houston adds significant volume from the energy and healthcare sectors, where data infrastructure roles are increasingly common. San Antonio has a smaller but growing presence, particularly around cybersecurity and defense-adjacent technology employers.
How to find data engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters data engineer roles in Texas by visa sponsorship availability, so you're not manually screening out employers who don't sponsor. The platform covers openings across Austin, Dallas, Houston, and beyond, with roles at both established enterprises and growth-stage companies. Searching by role and state on Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to general job searches where sponsorship status is rarely disclosed upfront.
Are there any Texas-specific factors that affect data engineer visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects how employers structure compensation benchmarks for prevailing wage compliance under H-1B rules. The state's large research university system, including UT Austin, Texas A&M, and UT Dallas, produces a significant pipeline of international graduates who enter the local data engineering job market on F-1 OPT. Employers in energy-heavy cities like Houston may have different technical stack requirements compared to the SaaS-oriented roles more common in Austin.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
