Which companies sponsor visas for electricians in Texas?
Large electrical contractors with a significant Texas presence, including Quanta Services, MYR Group, and Bergelectric, have histories of sponsoring foreign workers for skilled trades roles. Utility companies such as Oncor and CenterPoint Energy also hire licensed electricians and have sponsored certain positions. Sponsorship is more common for specialized roles, such as high-voltage transmission work or industrial electrical engineering, than for general residential wiring.
Which visa types are most common for electrician roles in Texas?
The H-2B visa is the most frequently used category for non-agricultural temporary skilled tradespeople, including electricians, when employers can demonstrate a shortage of available U.S. workers. The H-1B is occasionally used for electricians in roles that require a relevant bachelor's degree, such as electrical engineering positions with hands-on field responsibilities. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals working as engineers in qualifying electrical roles.
Which cities in Texas have the most electrician sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads due to its concentration of petrochemical plants, refineries, and large-scale industrial construction projects that require specialized electrical crews. Dallas-Fort Worth follows closely, driven by commercial construction and data center expansion. San Antonio and Austin also generate consistent demand, particularly in residential and commercial development. For transmission and utility work, opportunities are distributed across rural corridors connecting major Texas power infrastructure.
How to find electrician visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find electrician roles in Texas where employers are open to visa sponsorship. The platform filters jobs specifically by sponsorship willingness, so you are not sorting through listings that exclude international candidates. Focusing your search on industrial, utility, and large-scale commercial contractors in Houston and Dallas will surface the most relevant opportunities for qualified electricians.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for electricians seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas requires electricians to hold a state license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and employers will expect candidates to obtain or transfer this credential. Prevailing wage requirements under the H-2B or H-1B programs are set by the Department of Labor based on the specific Texas metro area where the work occurs, meaning wages vary between Houston, Dallas, and smaller markets. The Texas electrical market is heavily tied to energy sector cycles, so hiring demand can shift with oil prices and utility infrastructure investment.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrician jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
