Which companies sponsor visas for engineering technicians in Texas?
Large energy companies such as ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, and Halliburton have historically sponsored engineering technician roles in Houston. Defense contractors including Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and L3Harris do the same in the DFW and San Antonio areas. Semiconductor and electronics manufacturers in Austin and Round Rock, including Samsung and Applied Materials, also appear in Department of Labor sponsorship records for technician positions.
Which visa types are most common for engineering technician roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most commonly used visa for engineering technician roles, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Some roles may qualify under the TN visa category for Canadian and Mexican nationals if they meet the defined occupational criteria. O-1 visas are occasionally used for technicians with demonstrated extraordinary expertise, though this is less common for technician-level positions.
Which cities in Texas have the most engineering technician sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads the state for engineering technician sponsorship, driven by the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries along the Gulf Coast. Dallas-Fort Worth follows closely, with demand spanning aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing. Austin has grown significantly due to semiconductor fabrication and tech hardware employers. San Antonio sees consistent demand from military and defense contractors based at Joint Base San Antonio and surrounding facilities.
How to find engineering technician visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify engineering technician roles in Texas where employers are open to sponsoring international candidates. You can narrow results by city or industry, which is useful given how differently the Houston energy market, the DFW aerospace sector, and the Austin semiconductor corridor operate in terms of hiring and sponsorship practices.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for engineering technicians seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons under H-1B requirements since the Department of Labor calculates wages at the metropolitan statistical area level. Houston, Dallas, and Austin each have distinct prevailing wage benchmarks for technician roles. Texas A&M, UT Austin, and Rice University supply a significant share of domestic candidates, so international applicants benefit from targeting employers with established international hiring programs in high-demand specialties like petroleum engineering technology or semiconductor process support.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering technician jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
