Which companies sponsor visas for engineering technicians in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's manufacturing and industrial employers are among the most active visa sponsors for engineering technicians. Companies like Oshkosh Corporation, Rockwell Automation, Johnson Controls, Regal Rexnord, and Generac Power Systems have documented H-1B filing histories. Defense contractors and medical device manufacturers in the state also sponsor engineering technician roles, particularly where specialized technical knowledge is required and domestic hiring alone doesn't meet demand.
Which visa types are most common for engineering technician roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa for engineering technicians in Wisconsin, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Some roles may also be filled through the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, or through OPT and STEM OPT extensions for recent graduates. Each pathway depends on the specific role, employer, and applicant's educational background.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most engineering technician sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee is Wisconsin's largest hub for engineering technician sponsorship jobs, driven by its concentration of manufacturing, automation, and industrial companies. Madison follows closely, supported by its proximity to UW-Madison and a growing technology and biomedical sector. Oshkosh, Green Bay, and Racine also see consistent hiring, particularly in defense manufacturing, food processing equipment, and heavy industry where technician roles are well-established.
How to find engineering technician visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate is a targeted resource for international job seekers looking for engineering technician visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin. Unlike general job boards, Migrate Mate filters specifically for roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness, saving time spent applying to positions that won't support a visa. You can filter by state and job category to surface Wisconsin engineering technician openings relevant to your visa situation.
Are there state-specific factors that affect engineering technician visa sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B positions are set using Department of Labor wage data specific to each metropolitan area, so wages in Milwaukee differ from those in smaller markets like Wausau or La Crosse. Wisconsin's strong technical college system means some engineering technician roles are filled locally, which affects how often employers seek international candidates. Roles tied to advanced manufacturing, defense contracts, or research institutions at UW-Madison tend to have stronger sponsorship track records.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering technician jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
