Which companies sponsor visas for lead software engineers in Texas?
Several large Texas-based employers have consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for senior engineering roles, including Dell Technologies in Round Rock, AT&T and Texas Instruments in Dallas, and HPE in Houston. Oracle maintains a significant presence in Austin. Beyond these anchors, Austin's startup ecosystem and the Dallas-Fort Worth corridor host hundreds of mid-size software and SaaS companies that actively sponsor lead engineering talent.
Which visa types are most common for lead software engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for lead software engineers in Texas, given the role's clear specialty occupation classification and degree requirements in computer science or a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on OPT or STEM OPT extension often transition through H-1B sponsorship. L-1A and L-1B transfers are also used for engineers moving from a foreign affiliate of a U.S. company with Texas offices.
How to find lead software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search lead software engineer roles in Texas without sifting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces employers with documented sponsorship activity, which is particularly useful in Texas where sponsorship willingness varies significantly between large enterprise employers in Dallas and earlier-stage companies in Austin.
Which cities in Texas have the most lead software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Austin is the most active market, driven by a concentration of tech companies including homegrown firms and relocations from California. Dallas-Fort Worth is close behind, with strength in fintech, telecom, and enterprise software. Houston contributes primarily through energy-tech and aerospace-adjacent software roles. San Antonio has a smaller but growing cybersecurity and defense-tech sector that occasionally sponsors senior engineering positions.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for lead software engineer visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since the Department of Labor sets wage levels based on regional data rather than cost-of-living adjustments. Austin's rapid growth has pushed local prevailing wages higher, narrowing the gap with coastal markets. The University of Texas, Texas A&M, and UT Dallas produce strong engineering pipelines, meaning employers in Texas are experienced with OPT-to-H-1B transitions for senior roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored lead software engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
