Which companies sponsor visas for mechanics in Texas?
Large automotive dealer groups like AutoNation and Penske Automotive Group have sponsored mechanics in Texas, as have heavy equipment companies serving the oil and gas sector and commercial fleet operators. Airlines with maintenance hubs at Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston's airports also sponsor aviation mechanics. Sponsorship is more common at larger operations with dedicated HR infrastructure than at independent repair shops.
Which visa types are most common for mechanic roles in Texas?
The H-2B visa is used for temporary, non-agricultural positions including mechanics when employers can demonstrate a seasonal or peak-load need. Skilled mechanics with a qualifying bachelor's degree or its equivalent in a specific technical field may be considered under the H-1B visa, though this is uncommon for most mechanic roles. EB-3 immigrant visas are another pathway employers use for skilled or semi-skilled positions on a permanent basis.
Which cities in Texas have the most mechanic sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads due to its concentration of energy-sector fleets, petrochemical plant equipment, and two major airports requiring aviation mechanics. Dallas-Fort Worth follows with one of the country's largest concentrations of auto dealerships and a major American Airlines maintenance operation. San Antonio has demand from military contractors at Joint Base San Antonio, and Austin's growth has expanded commercial vehicle fleet needs significantly.
How to find mechanic visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters mechanic roles specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse Texas openings without sorting through employers who won't support an international hire. The platform covers positions across automotive, diesel, aviation, and heavy equipment categories throughout Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Austin. Filtering by role type and location helps identify which employers have an active sponsorship track record in this state.
Are there any Texas-specific factors that affect mechanic visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons employers must consider when filing a Labor Condition Application or similar documentation. The state's energy industry creates sustained demand for industrial and heavy equipment mechanics, making sponsorship more viable in that sector than in general automotive repair. Employers in oil-producing regions like the Permian Basin and along the Gulf Coast tend to recruit internationally when local labor supply is tight.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mechanic jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
