Search Planner Jobs in TexasPlanner Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for planners in Texas?
Engineering and consulting firms lead H-1B sponsorship for planners in Texas. AECOM, Jacobs, HDR, and Kimley-Horn have filed LCAs for planning roles in Texas cities. Large municipalities including the City of Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth area agencies also sponsor planners, particularly for transportation and urban planning positions. Supply chain and operations planners find sponsorship opportunities at firms like Amazon, Dell, and ExxonMobil.
Which visa types are most common for planner roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for planner roles in Texas, covering urban planners, transportation planners, and supply chain planners with qualifying bachelor's degrees in planning, engineering, or a related field. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in certain planning occupations. Planners with extraordinary ability or national recognition may qualify for the O-1A, though this is far less common in the planning field.
Which cities in Texas have the most planner sponsorship jobs?
Dallas-Fort Worth has the highest concentration of sponsored planner roles in Texas, driven by rapid regional growth and major infrastructure projects. Houston follows closely, with strong demand in transportation, environmental, and industrial planning tied to the energy sector. Austin's tech-fueled expansion has created consistent demand for urban and operations planners. San Antonio also shows steady activity, particularly in municipal and regional planning agencies.
How to find planner visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find planner jobs in Texas that include visa sponsorship. The platform filters specifically for roles where employers have a documented history of sponsoring work visas, saving you the step of screening generic job postings. You can filter by city, planning specialization, and visa type to narrow results to positions that match your background and authorization needs.
Are there state-specific considerations for planners seeking visa sponsorship in Texas?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons under H-1B Labor Condition Applications. The Department of Labor sets prevailing wages by metropolitan area, so rates differ between Houston, Dallas, and Austin. Texas also has several ACIP-accredited planning programs at UT Austin and Texas A&M that generate local talent pipelines, meaning employer familiarity with sponsoring early-career international planners tends to be higher at firms that recruit from those universities.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored planner jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
