Search Principal Engineer Jobs in UtahPrincipal Engineer Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies in Utah sponsor visas for principal engineers?
Several established tech employers in Utah's Silicon Slopes region have a track record of sponsoring visas for senior engineering roles. Adobe's Lehi and Salt Lake City offices, Qualtrics, Domo, and eBay's Utah engineering teams have filed H-1B petitions for principal engineer positions. Larger employers with dedicated HR and legal teams are generally better positioned to manage the sponsorship process than smaller startups.
What visa types are most common for principal engineer roles in Utah?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for principal engineers in Utah, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability in their field may also explore the O-1A. Australians working in the U.S. often hold E-3 visas, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under TN status for engineering roles.
How to find principal engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Utah?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, and you can filter by role and state to surface principal engineer openings in Utah. This is more efficient than browsing general job boards, since listings on Migrate Mate are curated for sponsorship willingness. Given that principal engineer roles in Utah cluster around the Salt Lake City metro and Silicon Slopes corridor, filtering by that geography helps narrow results quickly.
Which cities in Utah have the most principal engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Salt Lake City metro area accounts for the majority of principal engineer sponsorship activity in Utah, with significant hiring in Lehi, Draper, and Provo along the Wasatch Front corridor commonly called Silicon Slopes. Lehi in particular hosts regional offices for Adobe, Qualtrics, and several other mid-to-large tech companies that have sponsored senior engineering roles. Outside this corridor, sponsorship opportunities are limited.
Are there state-specific considerations for principal engineers seeking sponsorship in Utah?
Utah's tech sector is relatively young compared to Silicon Valley or Seattle, which means a higher proportion of employers are mid-stage companies that may have less experience navigating H-1B sponsorship. Principal engineer roles in Utah typically fall under DOL prevailing wage Level III or IV determinations, and employers must certify they are meeting those wage requirements when filing a Labor Condition Application. The University of Utah and Brigham Young University supply strong local engineering pipelines, which can affect hiring urgency and sponsorship willingness.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal engineer jobs in Utah?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
