Which companies sponsor visas for principal engineers in Oregon?
Intel is Oregon's largest employer of principal engineers and has a well-established H-1B visa sponsorship track record, particularly at its Hillsboro campus. Other active sponsors include Nike, Salesforce, Daimler Trucks North America, and a range of healthcare technology firms headquartered in Portland. Semiconductor and cloud infrastructure companies operating in the Portland metro area also appear regularly in DOL Labor Condition Application filings for principal-level engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for principal engineer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for principal engineers in Oregon, as these roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Candidates with significant industry recognition may also be considered for the O-1A, which does not require employer-based lottery selection. Multinational professionals with qualifying employment abroad may be eligible for the L-1A or L-1B depending on their role structure.
Which cities in Oregon have the most principal engineer sponsorship jobs?
Portland accounts for the large majority of principal engineer sponsorship activity in Oregon, driven by its concentration of technology, semiconductor, and enterprise software employers. Hillsboro, immediately west of Portland, is particularly significant due to Intel's manufacturing and engineering campuses there. Beaverton also sees consistent hiring at the principal level, largely through Nike's global technology operations. Eugene and Corvallis have smaller but active markets linked to university-adjacent startups and research-driven companies.
How to find principal engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search principal engineer roles in Oregon without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Because principal engineer is a senior-level title, listings on Migrate Mate tend to reflect roles where employers already have established immigration programs, which reduces time spent on outreach to companies unlikely to sponsor at that level.
Are there any state-specific considerations for principal engineers seeking sponsorship in Oregon?
Oregon's prevailing wage requirements under federal LCA rules are benchmarked to the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro metropolitan statistical area for most sponsored roles, which reflects the region's competitive senior engineering market. Oregon also has no state income tax on wages earned by Oregon residents, which is a practical consideration when evaluating total compensation. The state's strong semiconductor and clean tech pipeline, partly supported by Oregon State University and Portland State University, creates a consistent supply of sponsorship-active employers at the principal engineer level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal engineer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
