Which companies in Indiana sponsor visas for principal engineers?
Indianapolis-based employers with documented H-1B sponsorship for senior engineering roles include Salesforce (which has a major technology hub in the city), Eli Lilly, Cummins, and Genesys. Larger financial and healthcare technology firms headquartered or regionally based in Indiana also appear in DOL disclosure data for principal and staff engineer positions. Sponsorship activity is most consistent at companies with established global workforce programs.
What visa types are most common for principal engineer roles in Indiana?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for principal engineers in Indiana, as the role typically meets specialty occupation requirements through its degree and technical expertise requirements. O-1A visas are an option for engineers with documented extraordinary achievement. Candidates already holding L-1A or L-1B status through a multinational employer can also transfer into Indiana-based positions without entering the H-1B lottery.
Which Indiana cities have the most principal engineer visa sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis accounts for the large majority of principal engineer sponsorship activity in Indiana, driven by its concentration of technology, life sciences, and enterprise software employers. Bloomington sees some activity tied to Indiana University's research and technology transfer ecosystem. Columbus, Indiana is notable for Cummins' global engineering operations, which have historically sponsored senior technical roles.
How to find principal engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search principal engineer roles in Indiana without having to screen out companies that don't sponsor. The platform surfaces positions from employers with active sponsorship programs, which is particularly useful in Indiana where sponsoring companies are spread across industries including manufacturing, life sciences, and enterprise software rather than concentrated in one sector.
Are there any state-specific considerations for principal engineers seeking sponsorship in Indiana?
Indiana's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B positions are determined by the DOL and tied to the Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson metropolitan area for most roles. Principal engineer positions typically fall at Level III or Level IV prevailing wage, reflecting their senior scope. Indiana's engineering talent pipeline is partly fed by Purdue University, which means employers in the state are familiar with sponsoring international graduates into senior roles over time.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal engineer jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
