Which companies sponsor visas for IT support roles in Vermont?
UVM Health Network, GlobalFoundries, and the University of Vermont are among Vermont's more active employers for IT support roles with visa sponsorship history. State government agencies and managed service providers serving Burlington's business community also hire for technical support positions. Sponsorship availability varies by role level and employer size, so confirming sponsorship willingness directly with hiring managers is important before applying.
Which visa types are most common for IT support roles in Vermont?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for IT support professionals in Vermont, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Systems administrators and network support engineers more often meet this threshold than general helpdesk roles. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical categories, and the O-1 visa may apply to candidates with exceptional credentials.
Which cities in Vermont have the most IT support sponsorship jobs?
Burlington and its immediate suburbs, including South Burlington and Williston, account for the majority of IT support sponsorship opportunities in Vermont. The presence of UVM Medical Center, several managed service providers, and technology-oriented businesses in Chittenden County drives most hiring activity. Montpelier, as the state capital, offers some public-sector IT support roles, though the overall volume is smaller than the Burlington metro area.

Vermont's relatively small tech sector means fewer total sponsorship openings compared to larger states, but competition for those roles can also be lower. Employers filing H-1B petitions must pay the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for the specific role and location, which is determined by Burlington-area wage data for most Vermont IT support positions. Candidates connected to the University of Vermont's international alumni network may find referral pathways into local employers more accessible.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored it support jobs in Vermont?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
