INTRODUCTION
The College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont invites nominations and applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track position in the Department of Social Work, beginning in Fall 2026, at the rank of Lecturer. We are seeking applicants who wish to join a department with a distinctive progressive orientation emphasizing critical perspectives and possibilities for transformative change. We seek candidates who can support our goal to address the dilemmas, injustices, and inequities facing our communities; and who will engage with practical applications of transformative perspectives in these challenging times.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Successful candidates will assume a range of responsibilities that include:
- Teaching Foundation/Generalist courses with a focus on at least two curricular areas of the Social Work curriculum (for example, human behavior and the social environment, generalist social work practice, etc.);
- Supporting the Practicum Education Coordinator with BSW and MSW practicum (placement) coordination, with particular attention to building and maintaining new partnerships in geographically dispersed areas of Vermont;
- Advising BSW and MSW students;
- Collaborative and active involvement in department governance and outreach activities; and
- Contributing to service activities within the program, department, college, university, and profession.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum requirements:
- Earned MSW degree;
- Two years or more post-master’s social work practice experience;
- Demonstration of commitment to principles of social justice, experience working with culturally and linguistically unique populations, and promotion of our Common Ground values in practice;
- Enthusiasm and capacity to teach within the Department’s philosophy and distinctive curricula (transformative perspectives); and
- Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Desirable qualifications:
- Substantial practice experience;
- Successful experience in teaching social work at the college/university level, particularly with practicum education and/or courses that support experiential, service and/or community-engaged learning; and
- Proven track record of academic advising with students and providing relational support aligned with those values outlined in UVM’s Our Common Ground statement (respect, integrity, innovation, openness, justice, and responsibility).
