Which companies sponsor visas for pharmacy technicians in Virginia?
The largest sponsors of pharmacy technician roles in Virginia tend to be major health systems such as Inova Health System, Sentara Healthcare, and VCU Health, as well as national pharmacy chains operating throughout the state. Hospital and health system employers are generally more likely to have established immigration sponsorship processes than independent or smaller retail pharmacy operations.
Which visa types are most common for pharmacy technician roles in Virginia?
The H-1B visa is the most commonly used category for pharmacy technicians when the role is classified as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Some employers may also support TN visa status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying pharmacy roles. Each case depends on how the employer and their immigration counsel classify the specific position.
Which cities in Virginia have the most pharmacy technician sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly the areas around Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax, concentrates a significant share of sponsored pharmacy technician roles due to the density of large hospital networks and federal health facilities. Richmond and Hampton Roads, home to VCU Health and Sentara respectively, are also active hiring markets. Smaller markets like Roanoke and Charlottesville have more limited sponsorship activity.
How to find pharmacy technician visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S., including pharmacy technician roles in Virginia. You can filter by state and job category to see which Virginia employers are actively hiring and have a history of sponsoring work visas. This is a more targeted approach than general job searching, since sponsorship-specific filtering removes roles that won't consider international applicants.
Are there state-specific considerations for pharmacy technicians seeking visa sponsorship in Virginia?
Virginia requires pharmacy technicians to register with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy, and some positions may require passing the PTCE or ExCPT certification exam. Employers filing H-1B petitions must also comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the specific county or metropolitan area where the work will be performed, which can vary between Northern Virginia and other parts of the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored pharmacy technician jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
