INTRODUCTION
Have you built onboarding and activation as an enterprise capability—not simply as a feature within one product? Do you know how to connect platform, identity, and product experiences into intuitive customer journeys that increase engagement and accelerate time to value? If you have led complex, cross-functional digital initiatives at scale and can turn interconnected systems into a cohesive, measurable experience, this is an opportunity to shape how customers begin—and continue—their relationship with CFA Institute.
The Senior Product Manager, Onboarding & Activation will define and deliver cohesive onboarding and activation experiences across CFA Institute’s global product ecosystem. This role will lead the strategy and execution of onboarding as an enterprise capability, working across platform, identity, and product domains to transform shared services into intuitive, scalable customer journeys. Using strong product judgment, systems thinking, and a data-informed approach, the Senior Product Manager will bring teams together around a consistent and purposeful path from a customer’s first interaction through early engagement. The role will establish reusable patterns, align priorities across products and platforms, and drive measurable improvements in activation, engagement, and time to value.
The position may be based in eligible remote jurisdictions in the Eastern time zone of the United States and is eligible for flexible work arrangements.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the definition and execution of onboarding and activation strategy as a foundational layer of the customer lifecycle, establishing how customers first engage with, navigate, and realize value across CFA Institute’s product ecosystem.
- Design onboarding and activation as a durable, scalable system that enables new programs and experiences to be introduced with speed and consistency, and that guides customers from initial interaction into sustained engagement through clarity, continuity, and thoughtful progression.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives to deliver onboarding and activation experiences that span products, systems, and touchpoints.
- Align engineering, design, identity, and customer experience teams around shared priorities and sequencing to ensure onboarding and activation evolve in a coordinated and intentional manner.
- Establish clear patterns for how onboarding is implemented across products, enabling teams to move quickly while maintaining enterprise-level consistency.
- Establish standards and reusable patterns that enable consistent onboarding experiences across products and programs, while preserving product teams’ flexibility in execution.
- Translate platform and identity capabilities into scalable, connected experience frameworks that reduce implementation complexity and accelerate product and program launches.
- Oversee documentation of onboarding patterns and standards to ensure clarity, consistency, and operational efficiency.
- Define and operationalize key performance indicators that drive measurable improvements in activation rates, early engagement, and customer progression across the ecosystem.
- Apply a data-informed approach to continuously improve onboarding performance, incorporating customer feedback, industry trends, and business insights to identify opportunities and develop actionable improvement strategies.
- Effectively communicate onboarding strategy, priorities, and outcomes to diverse stakeholders, including executive leadership, product teams, engineering, and business partners.
- Build and sustain alignment across organizational boundaries to ensure onboarding and activation are delivered as a connected experience and represent the onboarding function as a shared enterprise capability rather than a collection of independent efforts.
What You'll Bring
- 8–10+ years of experience in product management, with demonstrated success delivering complex, cross-functional, or cross-system experiences at enterprise scale.
- Demonstrated success designing and optimizing onboarding, activation, or early lifecycle experiences in digital products or platforms.
- Proven ability to understand and navigate complex organizational structures, system interdependencies, and platform architectures, and to translate these into cohesive, user-centered experiences.
- Experience working effectively with platform or shared-services teams, leveraging shared capabilities across organizational domains without duplicating ownership.
- Ability to connect product strategy and decisions to business outcomes, including customer engagement, retention, and operational efficiency.
- Proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives across engineering, design, and business functions in complex, matrixed environments.
- Strong data-informed approach with demonstrated ability to define, measure, and continuously improve product performance and customer outcomes.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to align stakeholders and drive decisions at all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in Agile methodologies and experience managing product portfolios or initiatives across multiple teams and workstreams.
- Awareness of the professional education or membership organization industry preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English required.
COMPENSATION
- Expected salary range: $110,000 - $150,000 per year. All salary ranges are subject to adjustment based on experience, education, and other factors relevant to the position. Additional benefits include eligibility for an annual incentive bonus, a 12% employer contribution to a 401(k) or pension plan, and a comprehensive medical benefits package.

Which companies sponsor visas for product leads in Virginia?
Northern Virginia's technology and federal contracting sectors produce the most product lead sponsorship activity. Companies like Amazon Web Services, Capital One, Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, and SAIC have consistent H-1B filing histories for product-focused roles. Smaller SaaS and cybersecurity firms in the Dulles corridor also sponsor product leads, though less frequently than large enterprises.
Which visa types are most common for product lead roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for product lead roles in Virginia, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field like computer science, business, or engineering. Candidates with extraordinary achievement may pursue the O-1A. Multinational employees transferring internally can explore the L-1A for managerial roles.
Which cities in Virginia have the most product lead sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly the Tysons Corner, Reston, and Arlington areas, concentrates the largest share of product lead sponsorship opportunities due to its dense cluster of federal contractors and cloud technology firms. Richmond has a growing fintech and enterprise software presence, anchored by Capital One's headquarters. McLean and Herndon are also active markets for sponsored product leadership roles.
How to find product lead visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for product lead roles in Virginia without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. You can filter by location and role type to surface relevant openings from Virginia employers with active H-1B filing histories, saving significant time compared to unfiltered job searches.
Are there any Virginia-specific considerations for product lead visa sponsorship?
Virginia's proximity to federal agencies means many product lead roles involve security clearance requirements, which can complicate or preclude sponsorship for foreign nationals. Cleared positions are generally not viable for new visa applicants. Outside the cleared sector, Virginia's tech corridor feeds into a competitive university pipeline from George Mason University and Virginia Tech, which employers in the region actively recruit from.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product lead jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
