DESCRIPTION
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Amazon is seeking a self-starter and results-oriented individual to join the AWS Energy team that sits within the AWS Infrastructure Services org in pioneering the future for data center utility power by developing and executing the strategy by which AWS delivers energy projects and partners with electric utilities and energy companies across the Pacific Northwest region of the US. This individual will define the end to end, including generation, transmission, distribution, and backup power strategy, for scaling and operating AWS’ diverse, low-cost energy supply. In this role, you will manage multiple, large-scale (100+ MW) and technically complex power infrastructure projects across multiple geographies by facilitating close collaboration between both internal and external stakeholders.
Within the overarching strategy, this individual must be resilient in exploring and discovering new supply opportunities (that delivery both near term capacity with an accelerated path to net-zero carbon supply), ultimately converting them into tactically sound and executable energy projects while working to reduce energy capital and operating expenses. Internally, responsibilities outside of implementing the defined strategy include reporting status, risks, mitigations and successes to C level and VP level leadership, as well as influencing multiple cross-functional partner teams in the overall data center capacity delivery business process.
Externally, this role takes ownership of managing utility interactions, coordinating efforts between real estate, engineering and planning teams in site evaluation, project engineering, scheduling and budgeting, including influencing and contracting with the utility, EPC and/or Owner’s Engineer to meet AWS’ needs. The individual will work in an integrated team to implement a strategy that meets and exceeds AWS’ energy program requirements while delivering projects on time, with tangible reliability and cost-saving results.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong energy background and a proven track record of developing and delivering on innovative energy projects. Experience working with regulated electric utilities, especially those in WECC and PNW region, to develop, contract and deliver medium and high voltage power infrastructure, including related tariffs and supply agreements, is a must.
In this role, you will negotiate and execute power supply contracts across AWS regions and create innovative supply structures that integrate our renewable energy portfolio and support the growth of clean energy via utility partnerships. The right candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about the business, operations, and technical challenges, with the skill-set to drive tactical execution of project schedules, contracts, initiatives and team goals. The candidate must have experience in reliably driving initiatives to completion in high speed, constrained and ambiguous environments, with practice in escalating and reporting to many organization leaders and teams across multiple levels. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you will be responsible for ensuring energy requirements needed to support AWS’s global infrastructure expansion are met.
This role may require some domestic travel (less than 20%).
Key job responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive utilities strategy for AWS data centers for AMER regions.
- Manage multiple Utilities, EPC and Owner's Engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure, including negotiations and contracting.
- Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage, etc) to reduce long term energy costs. Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
- Work collaboratively with Amazon CFE/RE team to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities.
- Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid (through utilities), reduce cost, minimize risk and leverage opportunities that benefit Amazon.
- Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects.
- Collaborate with internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy projects to meet the business timelines.
- Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects (capital and operational) and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.
- Responsible for completing due diligence on in-market opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business.
- Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.

Which companies in Washington sponsor visas for purchasing managers?
Amazon, Boeing, Microsoft, and Costco are among the most active sponsors for purchasing manager roles in Washington, given their large and complex supply chains. Companies in aerospace manufacturing, such as those in the Puget Sound supplier network, and major healthcare systems like Providence and MultiCare also have established sponsorship track records for procurement professionals.
Which cities in Washington have the most purchasing manager visa sponsorship jobs?
Seattle and the broader Eastside corridor, including Bellevue and Redmond, account for the majority of sponsorship opportunities, driven by the concentration of technology and corporate headquarters there. Tacoma sees demand tied to its port and logistics operations, while Everett and Renton have procurement roles connected to Boeing's manufacturing facilities and their supplier ecosystems.
Which visa types are most common for purchasing managers in Washington?
The H-1B is the most common visa for purchasing managers, as the role typically requires at least a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Some candidates qualify under the TN visa if Canadian or Mexican nationals, given procurement's inclusion as a management category under USMCA. The O-1 is rarely applicable unless the candidate has exceptional professional recognition.
How to find purchasing manager visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles with visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to identify purchasing manager positions in Washington without sorting through employers who don't sponsor. You can narrow results by location, from Seattle to Tacoma to the Eastside, and focus on industries like technology, aerospace, and logistics where Washington's sponsorship activity is most concentrated.
Are there any Washington-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for purchasing managers?
Washington's high concentration of large, globally operating employers means many companies already have internal immigration infrastructure and established relationships with immigration counsel, which can streamline the sponsorship process. The state's technology and aerospace sectors tend to hire purchasing managers with specialized category experience, and employers in these industries have historically filed H-1B petitions at rates above the national average for supply chain roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored purchasing manager jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
