Energy and industrial employers are the most consistent sponsors for project development manager roles in West Virginia. Companies like Dominion Energy, Chemours, and large engineering and construction firms working on state infrastructure projects have filed H-1B visa Labor Condition Applications for project management positions. Federal contractors operating in the state, particularly those tied to defense and energy development, also sponsor this role with some regularity.
Which visa types are most common for project development manager roles in West Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for project development managers in West Virginia, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with advanced credentials may also qualify for O-1A visas based on extraordinary ability. Those from countries with treaty agreements, such as Canada or Mexico, may qualify for TN visa status under the management consultant or engineer categories.

What state-specific factors should international project development managers know about working in West Virginia?
West Virginia's economy is heavily weighted toward energy, natural resources, and infrastructure, so project development manager roles here often require familiarity with regulatory environments specific to those industries, including state and federal permitting processes. What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project development manager jobs in West Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
