Which companies sponsor visas for electrical controls engineers in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin manufacturers with documented H-1B sponsorship histories for controls engineering roles include Rockwell Automation, Regal Rexnord, Johnson Controls, Briggs and Stratton, and Oshkosh Corporation. Food processing and paper industry employers in the Fox Valley region, such as Georgia-Pacific and Bemis, also sponsor controls engineers periodically. Sponsorship patterns vary by year and open headcount, so confirming directly with each employer's recruiting team is essential.
Which visa types are most common for electrical controls engineer roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa for electrical controls engineers in Wisconsin, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical or controls engineering. Canadian and Mexican nationals frequently use the TN visa under the USMCA engineer category, which avoids the H-1B lottery and can be arranged at the border. Engineers from Australia may also qualify for the E-3 visa.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most electrical controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee is Wisconsin's primary market for controls engineering sponsorship, driven by Rockwell Automation's global headquarters and a dense cluster of industrial manufacturers in the surrounding metro. The Fox Cities corridor, including Appleton, Neenah, and Oshkosh, has strong demand from paper, packaging, and food processing automation employers. Green Bay and Waukesha also show consistent hiring activity for controls and automation engineering talent.
How to find electrical controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to browse electrical controls engineer roles posted by Wisconsin employers who have sponsored visas before. Rather than sorting through thousands of unfiltered postings, you can narrow directly to sponsored controls engineering positions in Milwaukee, the Fox Cities, or other Wisconsin markets. Creating an account on Migrate Mate lets you set alerts for new Wisconsin openings as they appear.
Are there state-specific considerations for electrical controls engineers seeking sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions are set at the federal Department of Labor level using the Milwaukee or Green Bay metropolitan area wage surveys, depending on job location. The state's strong focus on industrial automation means controls engineers often work on classified manufacturing systems, so some roles may involve background checks or export control compliance under ITAR, which can affect hiring timelines for certain visa holders. Employers in defense-adjacent manufacturing should be evaluated carefully.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical controls engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
