How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Buyer
Emphasize analytical and negotiation skills
Highlight experience with data analysis, cost reduction strategies, and vendor negotiations. Companies value buyers who can demonstrate measurable procurement savings and strategic sourcing expertise that requires specialized education.
Target companies with complex supply chains
Focus on manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and technology companies that need sophisticated procurement strategies. These employers understand the specialized knowledge required for strategic buying and vendor management roles.

Position yourself as a strategic sourcing professional rather than an administrative purchaser. Emphasize market analysis, risk assessment, and long-term supplier partnerships that require specialized business education and expertise.
Consider supply chain certifications

Do buyer positions qualify as specialty occupations for H-1B visas?
Yes, when the role requires specialized knowledge in procurement, supply chain management, or vendor relations that typically requires a bachelor's degree. Strategic buying positions involving market analysis, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management generally qualify. Basic purchasing clerk roles may not meet specialty occupation requirements.
What degree fields qualify for buyer visa sponsorship?
Business administration, supply chain management, operations management, economics, and related fields typically qualify. Some positions may accept engineering or technical degrees when buying specialized equipment or materials. The key is demonstrating how your educational background relates to the strategic procurement aspects of the role.
Which visa types work best for international buyers?
H-1B is most common for buyer roles requiring specialized knowledge. E-3 works for Australians in strategic procurement positions. TN visa covers certain buyer roles for Canadians and Mexicans, particularly those involving economic analysis or management consulting aspects of procurement strategy.
What makes a buyer role strong for visa sponsorship?
Roles emphasizing strategic sourcing, vendor relationship management, market analysis, and cost optimization strategies. Positions requiring specialized procurement software knowledge, contract negotiation skills, or industry-specific buying expertise demonstrate the specialized knowledge needed for successful visa petitions.
How do companies justify sponsoring buyers over hiring domestically?
Employers highlight specific expertise in international sourcing, knowledge of particular markets or suppliers, technical product knowledge, or specialized procurement methodologies. Language skills for managing global suppliers or understanding of specific industry supply chains can strengthen the business need argument.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Buyer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
