How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Federal Account Executive
Target federal technology and defense contractors first
Companies like Salesforce, AWS, Palantir, and Leidos sell heavily into the federal government and have established visa sponsorship programs. Their HR infrastructure handles H-1B filings routinely, reducing friction compared to smaller government contractors.
Clarify security clearance requirements before applying
Many federal account executive roles require a U.S. security clearance, which is unavailable to most visa holders. Filter for positions that explicitly state clearance is not required or where sponsorship is confirmed alongside open clearance eligibility.
Emphasize government procurement knowledge in your resume
Employers sponsoring visa candidates for federal sales roles want proof you understand GSA schedules, FAR regulations, and federal buying cycles. Concrete examples of closing government contracts signal readiness and reduce employer hesitation around sponsorship costs.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Not every federal account executive listing comes from an employer willing to sponsor. Migrate Mate filters for confirmed visa-sponsoring companies, saving you from applying to roles that will screen you out at the clearance or authorization stage.
Understand that your visa type affects your timeline
H-1B sponsorship ties you to an employer during the petition period. TN visa holders working in business or management consulting roles may qualify faster if Canadian or Mexican. Know which pathway fits your citizenship before negotiating an offer.
Document measurable federal sales outcomes for your petition
USCIS adjudicators assess whether the role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Quantified results, like contract values closed or agency relationships managed, strengthen the specialty occupation argument and support a cleaner, faster H-1B approval.

Can a Federal Account Executive role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, but the employer must demonstrate that the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business administration, marketing, or information technology. Generic sales roles without a degree requirement can struggle. Federal account executive positions tied to complex technical products or government IT solutions tend to qualify more cleanly because the role demands specialized knowledge of federal procurement and the underlying technology.
Do most federal technology employers sponsor visas for this role?
Larger federal technology contractors and SaaS companies with federal divisions sponsor regularly. Smaller contractors often lack the legal infrastructure and budget to manage an H-1B petition. Your strongest targets are established companies with dedicated federal sales teams and prior H-1B filing history. Migrate Mate lists federal account executive roles specifically from employers with confirmed sponsorship, so you can avoid wasting time on applications that will stall at authorization screening.
Does a security clearance requirement automatically disqualify visa holders?
In most cases, yes. U.S. security clearances require U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency, so active clearance roles are out of reach for most H-1B or TN holders. However, many federal account executive roles in software, cloud, and analytics do not require clearances and focus instead on civilian agency sales. Always read the clearance requirement carefully before applying, and prioritize roles that explicitly note no clearance is required.
What degree fields are most commonly accepted for Federal Account Executive H-1B petitions?
Business administration, marketing, communications, information technology, and public policy are the most defensible fields. If your degree is in a less obvious area, the employer's legal team will need to build a nexus argument connecting your field of study to the specific duties of the role. STEM degrees paired with federal sales experience can also work, particularly when the employer sells technical products to defense or civilian agencies.
Is the TN visa an option for Federal Account Executive roles?
It can be, for Canadian and Mexican citizens. Management consultants and certain sales professionals may qualify under TN categories if the role aligns with a listed profession. The challenge is that TN categories are narrowly defined, and a generic account executive title may not fit cleanly. Roles with a management consulting or IT sales component that match a recognized TN occupation have the best chance. An immigration attorney should review the job description before you pursue this path.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Federal Account Executive jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
