How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Food and Beverage Manager
Highlight hospitality degree requirements
Emphasize roles requiring specific hospitality management, business administration, or culinary arts degrees. Generic management positions without degree requirements won't qualify for specialty occupation visas.
Target hotel chains and resort groups
Large hospitality companies like Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt regularly sponsor visas for management positions. They have established legal teams and understand the sponsorship process.
Emphasize revenue management expertise
Focus on experience with cost control, inventory management, and profit optimization. These analytical skills help justify the specialty occupation requirement for visa applications.
Document staff management experience
Highlight experience managing large teams, training programs, and operational compliance. Multi-unit or high-volume restaurant experience strengthens your sponsorship case with employers.
Show beverage program development skills
Experience creating wine lists, cocktail menus, or beverage cost analysis demonstrates specialized knowledge. This expertise helps differentiate your role from general management positions.
Consider seasonal resort opportunities
Ski resorts, beach hotels, and seasonal destinations often need temporary managers. These positions may offer faster hiring decisions and sponsorship opportunities during peak seasons.

What degree do I need for H-1B sponsorship as a Food and Beverage Manager?
You need a bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business administration, food service management, or a related field. Some employers accept equivalent experience using the 3-for-1 rule (three years of specialized work experience for each year of missing education). A two-year hospitality degree plus six years of F&B management experience could qualify.
Do Food and Beverage Manager roles qualify as specialty occupations?
Yes, when the position requires specific hospitality or business management knowledge and a related bachelor's degree. USCIS looks for roles involving complex operations, revenue analysis, regulatory compliance, and specialized industry knowledge. Generic supervisory roles without degree requirements typically don't qualify.
Which visa types work best for Food and Beverage Managers?
H-1B is most common for management roles requiring specialized knowledge. E-3 works for Australian citizens in qualifying positions. TN visa applies to Canadian and Mexican citizens if the role requires a business administration degree. L-1 is possible for managers transferring from international hotel chains.
What's the approval rate for F&B Manager visa petitions?
H-1B approval rates for management occupations typically range from 70-85%, depending on the employer's documentation and role complexity. Positions with clear specialty occupation requirements and established employers see higher approval rates. Detailed job descriptions emphasizing analytical and specialized responsibilities improve success rates.
Can I get sponsored for seasonal Food and Beverage Manager positions?
Yes, but it's complex. H-1B requires intent for temporary stay, making seasonal work potentially suitable. However, the employer must demonstrate ongoing need for the position. Ski resorts and summer destinations sometimes sponsor managers, but they need to show the role continues beyond the peak season or involves year-round planning.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Food and Beverage Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
