Overview
The US Government Affairs team is looking for a Government Affairs Manager to work in a fast-paced environment to assist members of the US Government Affairs (USGA) team located in Washington, DC and to provide related programmatic support, government affairs outreach, and project management. The candidate will engage in, and should be familiar with, policy issues related to AI, sustainability, cybersecurity, and trade, among others. The position will work closely with the GM, Congressional Affairs and the congressional team, as well as others within USGA and requires a strong focus on collaboration, data management, organization, writing, and internal policies and procedures. This role will take the lead in coordinating and facilitating some of the USGA team’s most important work, including engagement with Capitol Hill, and partnering closely with others in similar roles. This role will report directly to the Chief of Staff.
Success in this role requires a background in Operations, Program or Project Management. In this role you will be a systems-thinker and proactive problem-solver, creative, motivated, and personable, capable of building strong relationships, and has a strong drive for results. You will need time and project management, team organization and collaboration, ability to handle confidential information, maturity to work closely with company executives, good work ethic, and critical thinking skills. You will research government affairs issues impacting business strategy, attend meetings, set meeting agendas, prepare for hearings, and collaborate with internal teams on cross-group projects.
Responsibilities
- Promote Microsoft as a local and worldwide leader in technological innovation, services and solutions that help people and organizations achieve more.
- Work closely across teams within CELA to coordinate USGA work streams and programs and identify opportunities for collaboration.
- Develop project plans, status reports, and other project management artifacts that help communicate the status and value of the team’s work to a broad set of internal stakeholders.
- Monitor and help ensure the team’s progress against key performance indicators; identifying, escalating, and mitigating risks before they become issues and using AI and other tools to inform and strategize solutions.
- Help develop collateral to assist team members in their policy and business development pursuits.
- Ensure compliance of political activities with external laws and regulations and Microsoft Standards of Business Conduct.
- Coordinate communications between members of the USGA team and external clients.
- Maintain an understanding of the Rhythm of Business to be proactive and contribute to planning discussions and anticipate business needs and challenges.
- Research and learn new concepts and government affairs issues.
- Serve as a resource to the policy team for organizational and corporate policies and procedures.
- Manage policy team-related internal Teams content and internal/external briefings.
- Support the policy team on special projects such as preparation work prior to Exec visits.
- Manage projects and coordinate events.
- Represent the company publicly in a variety of settings.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years work experience as a project manager or similar role
OR equivalent experience.
Additional or preferred qualifications
- Program management experience preferred.
- Experience working on Capitol Hill or related experience.
- Excellent skills in organization and communications, together with the ability to partner across disciplines.
- Self-motivated and able to work in an efficient, informed, and accurate manner.
- Confidence and ability to quickly identify, analyze and develop creative and smart solutions to difficult problems and challenges.
- Regularly think outside the given parameters to see if there is a more effective way to accomplish the task than what is currently in use.
- Desire to work independently in a demanding and fast-paced environment without sacrificing high attention to detail.

Compensation
- The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $85,300 - $171,500 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $111,300 - $187,100 per year.
