About the role
We’re looking for a hands-on IT Team Lead to own and grow our internal IT function. You’ll lead a small team responsible for internal IT end-to-end across both operations and systems, helping keep employees productive, equipped, and supported throughout their time at the company.
This is a leadership role with real operational ownership. You’ll drive how internal IT services are delivered, improve the tools and processes behind them, and stay close enough to the work to step in on complex or high-priority issues when needed. Your scope will include employee lifecycle support, end-user support, hardware and software management, access coordination, workplace technology, internal IT systems, and keeping IT processes effective, well-documented, and audit-ready.
What you will do
-
Lead, develop, and grow the IT team. Set priorities, distribute work, and maintain high service quality across the full scope of internal IT.
-
Own core IT processes: onboarding and offboarding, end-user support, hardware and software provisioning, license administration, and access coordination.
-
Manage the corporate device and software lifecycle — inventory planning, procurement follow-up, renewals, returns, and optimization of hardware and SaaS usage.
-
Partner with HR, Security, Workplace, Finance, and other stakeholders on employee lifecycle workflows, access processes, office IT, and audit-readiness in IT-owned domains.
-
Identify bottlenecks, risks, and scaling gaps. Drive improvements in workflows, tooling, automation, documentation, and team structure — while staying hands-on in complex cases.
What you will need
-
5+ years in IT operations or a broad internal IT function, including experience leading a team.
-
Strong hands-on background in end-user support, endpoint management, and day-to-day IT operations.
-
Solid understanding of identity and access management, SaaS administration, asset management, and employee lifecycle processes.
-
Experience working cross-functionally with HR, Security, Finance, Procurement, and other stakeholders in a growing company.
Nice to have
-
Experience leading IT in a fast-growing startup or product company.
-
Experience with MDM platforms (Jamf, Intune, or similar) and Google Workspace administration.
-
Experience supporting audit or compliance readiness in operational IT domains.
-
Scripting or automation skills (Bash, Python, or low-code workflow tools).
-
Experience designing team processes, role distribution, or rotational support models.
Candidates are required to be authorized to work in the U.S. The employer is not offering relocation sponsorship, and remote work options are not available.

Target employers with a history of H-1B filings
Large consulting firms, financial institutions, and enterprise software companies file H-1B petitions regularly for IT leadership roles. Focusing on these employers significantly improves your chances of finding a team lead position with genuine sponsorship support.
Frame your leadership experience in concrete terms
Sponsoring employers want evidence you've managed engineers, owned deliverables, and driven outcomes. Quantify team size, project scope, and measurable results in your resume to make the business case for a specialty occupation petition easier to build.
Understand how your degree field affects your petition
USCIS requires your degree to align with the role's duties. A computer science, information systems, or software engineering degree maps cleanly to IT Team Lead. Degrees in unrelated fields may require additional documentation showing your qualifications meet the specialty occupation standard.
Ask about sponsorship early, not after the offer
Raising visa sponsorship late in the process wastes time for both sides. Confirm the employer's willingness and prior experience sponsoring visas during the first or second interview stage, before investing in a full hiring process that may not lead anywhere.
Highlight cross-functional impact, not just technical skills
IT Team Lead petitions are stronger when the role involves stakeholder management, architecture decisions, and strategic planning. Positions that blend technical and business responsibilities are easier to defend as specialty occupations requiring a specifically qualified professional.
Browse Migrate Mate for sponsorship-confirmed openings
Finding employers open to sponsorship is the hardest part of the job search. Migrate Mate filters IT Team Lead roles by visa sponsorship availability, saving you time and ensuring every application goes to an employer who has already indicated willingness to sponsor.

Find IT Team Lead JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can an IT Team Lead role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, IT Team Lead positions regularly qualify for H-1B sponsorship because they meet the specialty occupation standard. USCIS looks for roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Positions involving systems architecture, engineering management, and technical decision-making alongside a clear degree requirement typically satisfy that threshold without significant challenge.
Do I need a computer science degree to get sponsored as an IT Team Lead?
Not necessarily, but your degree must relate directly to the role's duties. Computer science, information systems, software engineering, and electrical engineering all map cleanly. If your degree is in a different field, your employer's immigration attorney may need to document how your educational background still satisfies the specialty occupation requirement through coursework or a credential evaluation.
How does the H-1B lottery affect IT Team Lead candidates?
Most IT Team Lead roles fall under the standard H-1B cap, meaning your petition enters the annual lottery. USCIS received roughly 442,000 registrations for 85,000 slots in FY2025, resulting in a selection rate around 25%. However, some employers, including universities, nonprofits, and certain research institutions, are cap-exempt and can file petitions year-round regardless of the lottery.
Are Australian citizens in a better position to get sponsored for IT Team Lead roles?
Yes. Australian citizens can apply for the E-3 visa, which has a separate 10,500 annual allocation that has never been fully used. There's no lottery, petitions can be filed at any time, and approval rates are high. An IT Team Lead role meeting the specialty occupation standard qualifies straightforwardly, making the E-3 a significantly more predictable sponsorship path than the H-1B lottery.
Where can I find IT Team Lead jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters roles by sponsorship availability. Rather than sifting through generic job listings where sponsorship willingness is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces IT Team Lead openings from employers who have confirmed they're open to sponsoring candidates, which eliminates a large portion of the friction in the international job search.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored IT Team Lead jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
