WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Mammography Technologist, you will report to the Director, Breast Care Center and works under the guidance of the Mammography Coordinator. Operates basic mammography equipment and uses ionizing radiation to make quality mammography radiographs. Performs medical x-rays on clients, as directed by physicians, according to established Breast Care Center (BCC) policies and procedures. Assists the Radiologist, as needed, during breast examination and breast lesion localization and biopsies. Contributes to a complete clinical history on each client. Participates in educational programs for the community.
MAMMOGRAPHY TECHNOLOGIST JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform mammography exams using ionizing radiation, ensuring proper equipment settings, positioning, and image quality
- Obtain and verify complete patient histories; answer patient questions and refer to appropriate staff as needed
- Maintain compliance with Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), including required licensure, continuing education, and exam volumes
- Support departmental quality assurance by assisting with equipment quality control and accreditation standards
- Assist radiologists with breast procedures (e.g., biopsies, cyst aspirations, needle localizations, ductograms)
- Prepare patients and procedure rooms; verify consent and conduct site/time-out procedures
- Operate imaging equipment, position patients, maintain sterile technique, and monitor patient condition during procedures
- Ensure accurate specimen labeling and handling
- Perform breast ultrasound imaging as assigned and maintain ultrasound equipment
- Maintain required continuing education for breast ultrasound to support ACR accreditation
- Manage exam room supplies and maintain a clean, organized clinical environment
- Participate in community education efforts and complete additional duties as assigned
WHAT YOU BRING
As a Mammography Technologist, you will demonstrate advanced expertise in mammography, stereotactic biopsy, and breast ultrasound techniques, including the ability to consistently obtain high-quality images through proper positioning, equipment selection, and technique adjustment. You will possess strong analytical skills to evaluate imaging results, ensure accuracy of records, and maintain quality assurance standards while minimizing patient exposure to radiation. You must exhibit a solid foundation in scientific and technical knowledge, with the communication skills necessary to effectively educate patients and present information to community groups. You will maintain proficiency in understanding and applying medical and radiologic terminology, as well as in basic computer applications such as data entry, word processing, and spreadsheets. You will demonstrate expertise in PACS systems, including image retrieval, transmission, printing, and integration of external studies. You will foster a warm, supportive environment for patients, easing anxieties and promoting a positive care experience, while maintaining professional and collaborative relationships with physicians, team members, and clients, and upholding the image and standards of the Breast Care Center.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through successful completion of an approved School of Radiology Technology program, with registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Maintenance of certification in Mammography and three months of on-the-job training is required.
