Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Pulmonary Function Technologist Jobs
Target large hospital systems first
Major medical centers like Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and Kaiser Permanente regularly sponsor H-1B visas for specialized healthcare roles and have established immigration processes.
Emphasize specialized equipment expertise
Highlight experience with advanced pulmonary function testing equipment, spirometry, and plethysmography. Specialized technical skills strengthen the specialty occupation argument for USCIS approval.
Consider respiratory therapy programs
Some employers sponsor technologists who complete accredited respiratory therapy programs in the U.S., creating a pathway from F-1 student status to H-1B employment.
Document your degree equivalency
If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from NACES or WES to confirm it meets the bachelor's degree requirement for H-1B eligibility.
Apply to teaching hospitals
Academic medical centers often have higher H-1B approval rates and more experience with visa sponsorship for specialized healthcare positions like pulmonary function technology.
Research state licensing requirements
Some states require respiratory therapist licenses for pulmonary function work. Ensure you can meet licensing requirements before accepting a sponsored position in that state.

Find Pulmonary Function Technologist JobsFrequently Asked Questions
What degree do I need for H-1B sponsorship as a Pulmonary Function Technologist?
You need a bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy, pulmonary function technology, cardiopulmonary science, or a related health science field. Some employers accept associate degrees plus extensive experience, but bachelor's degrees provide stronger H-1B cases. International degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency through NACES or WES.
How to find Pulmonary Function Technologist jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Pulmonary Function Technologist positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in sponsored healthcare roles. Focus on hospitals, respiratory care centers, and diagnostic laboratories that commonly sponsor H-1B and TN visas for medical technologists. These employers often need specialized respiratory testing professionals and are willing to sponsor qualified international candidates with proper certification and experience.
Do hospitals sponsor H-1B visas for Pulmonary Function Technologists?
Yes, many large hospital systems and medical centers sponsor H-1B visas for pulmonary function technologists. Academic medical centers, specialty respiratory clinics, and integrated health systems are most likely to sponsor. Smaller community hospitals may be less familiar with the visa process.
What makes this role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B?
Pulmonary Function Technologist roles qualify because they require specialized knowledge of respiratory physiology, pulmonary function testing protocols, and advanced diagnostic equipment operation. The role typically requires formal education in respiratory therapy or related health sciences, supporting the specialty occupation classification.
Can I get sponsored if I only have an associate degree in respiratory therapy?
It's challenging but possible. Some employers may sponsor with an associate degree plus extensive experience, but USCIS increasingly prefers bachelor's degrees for H-1B approval. Consider completing a bachelor's program or highlight any additional certifications and specialized training to strengthen your case.
Which states offer the best opportunities for sponsored Pulmonary Function Technologist positions?
California, New York, Texas, and Florida have the most opportunities due to large hospital systems and medical centers. These states also have higher concentrations of academic medical centers that regularly sponsor healthcare professionals. Research state licensing requirements, as some require respiratory therapist credentials for this work.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Pulmonary Function Technologist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
