Target hospital systems and surgery centers
Large healthcare networks like HCA Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, and Cleveland Clinic frequently sponsor CRNAs. Surgery centers also sponsor but typically for experienced practitioners with specialized skills in outpatient procedures.
Highlight your CRNA certification and clinical hours
Emphasize your nurse anesthetist certification, clinical rotation hours, and any specialized training in cardiac, pediatric, or trauma anesthesia. These credentials directly support the specialty occupation requirement for visa petitions.
Document your advanced practice experience
Prepare detailed records of your anesthesia case types, patient volumes, and any supervisory or teaching responsibilities. This documentation strengthens the petition by demonstrating the specialized nature of your nursing practice.
Network through professional associations
Connect with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists chapters in your target states. Many CRNAs have navigated visa sponsorship and can provide insights on receptive employers and market conditions.
Understand state licensing requirements early
Each state has different CRNA licensing requirements that may affect sponsorship timing. Research endorsement processes, continuing education requirements, and any additional certifications needed before applying to positions in specific states.

Find Nurse Anesthetist JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do CRNAs qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, nurse anesthetists qualify for H-1B sponsorship as a specialty healthcare occupation. The role requires a master's degree in nurse anesthesia and CRNA certification, meeting the specialty occupation criteria. Healthcare employers regularly sponsor CRNAs, particularly in competitive markets with staffing shortages.
What degree do I need for visa sponsorship as a nurse anesthetist?
You need a master's degree in nurse anesthesia from a CRNA program accredited by the Council on Accreditation. A bachelor's degree in nursing plus CRNA certification meets the requirement. Some employers may accept foreign equivalent credentials with credential evaluation services confirming degree equivalency.
Can Canadian CRNAs use TN visa status?
Yes, nurse anesthetists qualify for TN status under the registered nurse category, but you must meet both countries' licensing requirements. You'll need active CRNA certification and may need to complete additional licensing steps depending on the state where you'll practice.
How to find Nurse Anesthetist jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Nurse Anesthetist jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting healthcare professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus on major hospital systems, surgical centers, and healthcare networks that commonly sponsor H-1B and EB-2/EB-3 visas for specialized nursing roles. These employers actively recruit internationally due to high demand for certified anesthetists.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take for nurse anesthetists?
Standard H-1B processing takes 3-6 months, or 15 business days with premium processing. Healthcare employers often start the process 6-8 months before your intended start date to account for Labor Condition Application filing, state licensing requirements, and potential USCIS delays.
Do rural hospitals sponsor visas for CRNAs more readily?
Rural hospitals and critical access facilities often have greater willingness to sponsor due to chronic CRNA shortages. Some rural positions may qualify for J-1 Conrad 30 waiver programs or EB-2 National Interest Waiver pathways, providing alternative visa options beyond traditional H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Nurse Anesthetist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
