How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Mechatronics Technician
Target automation-heavy industries
Manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and medical device companies regularly sponsor mechatronics technicians. These industries depend on automated systems and recognize the specialized degree requirements that support visa applications.
Emphasize your engineering degree
USCIS requires a bachelor's in engineering, engineering technology, or related technical field for H-1B approval. Highlight coursework in mechanical, electrical, and computer systems to demonstrate specialty occupation qualifications.
Research company automation projects
Show employers you understand their specific automation needs. Reference their robotics implementations, control systems, or Industry 4.0 initiatives to demonstrate how your skills solve real business problems.
Consider contract-to-hire positions
Many companies hire mechatronics technicians through staffing agencies first. This lets employers evaluate your technical skills before committing to visa sponsorship costs and provides a pathway to permanent employment.
Highlight system integration experience
Employers value technicians who can work across mechanical, electrical, and software domains. Emphasize projects where you integrated PLCs, sensors, actuators, and control software into complete automated systems.
Apply to companies with existing visa programs
Large manufacturers and tech companies already sponsor technical roles regularly. Check DOL disclosure data to identify employers with recent H-1B approvals for engineering technician positions in your target locations.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do mechatronics technicians qualify for H-1B visas?
Yes, mechatronics technicians qualify as specialty occupation workers if the role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or related technical field. The position must involve complex technical tasks that require theoretical and practical knowledge typically gained through specialized education.
What degree do I need for visa sponsorship as a mechatronics technician?
You need a bachelor's degree in mechatronics engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering technology, or closely related field. USCIS requires the degree to directly relate to the job duties. Associates degrees typically don't qualify unless combined with equivalent work experience.
Which industries sponsor mechatronics technicians most often?
Manufacturing companies, automotive manufacturers, aerospace firms, medical device companies, and industrial automation providers sponsor mechatronics technicians regularly. These industries depend on automated systems and robotic technologies that require specialized technical expertise to design, maintain, and troubleshoot complex integrated systems.
What's the H-1B approval rate for engineering technician roles?
Engineering technician roles, including mechatronics positions, have approval rates around 85-90% when properly documented with appropriate degree requirements and job duties. Denials typically occur when the role appears more like hands-on maintenance rather than engineering-level technical work requiring specialized knowledge.
Can mechatronics technicians get sponsored for other visa types besides H-1B?
Yes, mechatronics technicians may qualify for TN visas if Canadian or Mexican with engineering degrees, E-3 visas if Australian with relevant qualifications, or EB-2/EB-3 green cards through PERM labor certification. The specific requirements vary by visa type and your educational background.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Mechatronics Technician jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
