News Anchor Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
News anchor positions qualify for H-1B and O-1 visa sponsorship when requiring a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field. Major networks and local stations sponsor international talent, though broadcast media roles often face additional scrutiny regarding nonimmigrant intent due to high visibility and public nature. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

- We create and produce some of the most popular and well-known branded live music events in America, including the iHeartRadio Music Festival, the iHeartRadio Music Awards, the iHeartCountry Festival, iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina and the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour;
- iHeartRadio is the #1 streaming radio digital service in America;

If you’re excited about this role but don’t feel your experience aligns perfectly with the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. How to Get Visa Sponsorship in News Anchor
Target stations with international content
Networks covering international news or serving immigrant communities actively seek multilingual anchors and understand visa processes better than purely domestic outlets.
Emphasize specialized journalism background
Highlight expertise in financial reporting, investigative journalism, or specific beats that require specialized knowledge beyond general communication skills for stronger H-1B cases.
Build a strong on-camera portfolio
Immigration officers scrutinize media roles heavily. Professional demo reels and documented broadcast experience help establish you as specialized talent, not entry-level communication worker.
Consider O-1 for established careers
Anchors with awards, major market experience, or unique expertise may qualify for O-1 visas, which avoid H-1B lottery limitations and annual caps.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent challenges
High-profile media roles raise questions about permanent residence intentions. Document specific career goals and temporary assignment nature clearly in visa applications and interviews.
Research market-specific requirements
Some markets require specific certifications or union memberships. Understand local broadcasting regulations and professional requirements before applying to avoid delays in sponsorship.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do news anchor positions qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, news anchor roles qualify when requiring a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, mass media, or related field. The position must demonstrate specialty occupation requirements by showing the degree requirement is industry standard and the role involves specialized knowledge beyond general communication skills.
What degree do I need for visa sponsorship as a news anchor?
A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, broadcast journalism, mass media, or related field is typically required. Some positions accept English, political science, or international relations degrees if combined with relevant broadcast experience. The degree must directly relate to the anchor position's responsibilities.
Which visa is better for news anchors - H-1B or O-1?
H-1B works for most anchor positions requiring specialized knowledge. O-1 is better for established anchors with awards, major market experience, or unique expertise like financial reporting. O-1 avoids lottery risk but requires higher evidence standards for extraordinary ability in journalism.
Do local news stations sponsor visas as often as major networks?
Major networks sponsor more frequently due to larger budgets and established immigration processes. Local stations do sponsor but typically for anchors with specialized skills like multilingual abilities or expertise in specific beats. Smaller markets may lack resources for complex visa processes.
How does the public nature of news anchor work affect visa applications?
High visibility roles face additional scrutiny regarding nonimmigrant intent, as officers may assume public figures intend permanent residence. Document specific assignment duration, career development goals, and plans for utilizing experience internationally. Strong ties to home country become more important for visa approval.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored News Anchor jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
