Orthodontic Assistant Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Orthodontic assistants can qualify for H-1B sponsorship if the role requires specialized dental knowledge and a bachelor's degree in a related field. Most orthodontic assistant positions are considered non-specialty occupations, making visa sponsorship challenging unless combined with specialized responsibilities. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship as an Orthodontic Assistant
Target specialized orthodontic practices
Large orthodontic groups and specialty dental practices are more likely to sponsor visas than general dentistry offices, especially for roles involving patient care coordination or specialized equipment management.
Emphasize your degree requirement justification
If the position requires knowledge of orthodontic procedures, dental software, or patient management systems that typically need formal education, highlight this in your application materials and interviews.
Consider dental therapy or hygienist roles instead
These positions more clearly meet specialty occupation requirements and have better visa sponsorship prospects. Many orthodontic practices also employ dental therapists for specialized patient care.
Look for training program coordinator positions
Orthodontic practices with residency programs often need coordinators who manage training schedules, educational materials, and compliance requirements, roles that clearly require bachelor's degrees in relevant fields.
Network through dental professional associations
Connect with the American Association of Orthodontists and local dental societies. Members often know which practices are expanding and might consider visa sponsorship.
Apply to academic orthodontic programs
University dental schools and orthodontic residency programs frequently sponsor visas for research assistants, clinical coordinators, and specialized support staff positions requiring advanced education.

Do orthodontic assistants qualify for H-1B visas?
Most orthodontic assistant roles don't qualify for H-1B visas because they're not considered specialty occupations requiring bachelor's degrees. However, positions involving specialized orthodontic technology, patient care coordination, or research responsibilities may qualify if the employer can demonstrate the role requires specific educational background.
What degree do I need for orthodontic assistant visa sponsorship?
For visa sponsorship, employers typically require a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene, health sciences, biology, or a related field. Some positions may accept dental assistant certification plus relevant experience, but degree requirements strengthen the visa petition significantly.
Which employers sponsor orthodontic assistants for visas?
Large orthodontic practice groups, university dental schools, and specialty clinics with research components are most likely to sponsor visas. Academic medical centers and orthodontic residency programs also sponsor for specialized coordinator and research assistant positions.
What's the approval rate for orthodontic assistant H-1B petitions?
USCIS doesn't publish role-specific approval rates, but dental support positions face higher scrutiny than traditional specialty occupations. Success depends on demonstrating the specific position requires a degree and involves specialized knowledge beyond basic dental assisting tasks.
Can I get an E-3 visa as an orthodontic assistant?
E-3 visas for orthodontic assistants face the same specialty occupation challenges as H-1B visas. Australian candidates should target positions with clear degree requirements, such as clinical research coordination, orthodontic technology management, or patient education roles requiring specialized knowledge.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Orthodontic Assistant jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
