How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Passenger Agent
Target major airlines and international airports
Delta, United, American Airlines, and major hub airports like LAX, JFK, and O'Hare frequently sponsor visas for passenger service roles, especially for candidates with language skills and customer service experience.
Emphasize multilingual abilities in applications
Airlines value passenger agents who speak multiple languages for international routes. Highlight specific languages and any customer service experience with diverse populations to strengthen your sponsorship case.
Consider ground handling companies as entry points
Companies like Swissport, Dnata, and Menzies Aviation often hire passenger agents and may be more willing to sponsor visas than airlines themselves, providing pathway to airline careers.
Apply during peak travel seasons
Summer and holiday seasons create higher demand for passenger agents. Timing applications before these busy periods can improve sponsorship chances as companies prepare for increased passenger volume.
Pursue airport-specific certifications
SIDA badges, AVSEC training, and dangerous goods certifications demonstrate commitment to aviation industry. These credentials can differentiate candidates and justify visa sponsorship to potential employers.
Network through aviation industry associations
Join organizations like Airports Council International or local aviation groups. Many passenger agent positions are filled through industry connections rather than public job postings, especially sponsored roles.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do passenger agent roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, but the position must require a bachelor's degree and involve specialized duties beyond basic customer service. Airlines typically frame sponsored passenger agent roles around operations coordination, international passenger processing, or multilingual customer relations to meet specialty occupation requirements.
What degree requirements do airlines have for sponsored passenger agent positions?
Most airlines require a bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business administration, communications, or related fields for sponsored roles. Some accept aviation management or tourism degrees. The degree requirement helps establish the position as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes.
Which airlines are most likely to sponsor passenger agents?
International carriers like United, Delta, American Airlines, and foreign airlines with U.S. operations (Emirates, Lufthansa, British Airways) sponsor more frequently. They often need agents for specific language capabilities or specialized international passenger processing that justifies visa sponsorship costs.
Can passenger agents transfer their visa sponsorship between airlines?
Yes, but the new employer must file a new H-1B petition. The process is easier if both roles involve similar duties and degree requirements. Ground handling companies and airlines often accept transfers since passenger service skills are transferable across aviation employers.
What are the approval rates for passenger agent H-1B applications?
Approval rates vary significantly based on how the role is positioned. Airlines that emphasize specialized duties like international regulations compliance or multilingual customer relations see higher approval rates than those presenting basic customer service roles. Detailed job descriptions focusing on complexity improve success rates.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Passenger Agent jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
