Patient Care RN Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Patient Care RN roles are among the most actively sponsored positions in U.S. healthcare. Most employers file H-1B visa or EB-3 petitions, and many cover legal and filing fees. International nurses typically need NCLEX-RN licensure, a credential evaluation, and a valid job offer before sponsorship begins. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

Get your credentials evaluated early
Foreign nursing degrees require a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved organization before most U.S. employers will proceed with sponsorship. Start this process as soon as possible, evaluations can take six to ten weeks and hold up your entire timeline.
Pass NCLEX-RN before applying
Nearly every sponsoring employer requires an active U.S. RN license before initiating a visa petition. Sitting for NCLEX early removes a major bottleneck and signals to employers that you're ready to start the sponsorship process without delays.
Target hospitals with established immigration programs
Large hospital systems and staffing agencies that sponsor nurses regularly have dedicated HR and legal teams to manage petitions efficiently. These employers are far less likely to withdraw sponsorship mid-process than smaller facilities attempting it for the first time.
Understand EB-3 vs. H-1B for nursing roles
Many nurses are sponsored through the EB-3 immigrant visa, which leads directly to a green card but has longer processing timelines. H-1B is faster to obtain but subject to the annual lottery. Knowing the difference helps you ask the right questions upfront.
Confirm the employer covers visa costs
Reputable sponsoring employers typically cover USCIS filing fees and immigration attorney costs. Before accepting an offer, confirm in writing which fees the employer absorbs. Employers who ask nurses to pay petition costs themselves raise compliance concerns under Department of Labor rules.
Ask about VisaScreen certification requirements
Most healthcare employers and USCIS require international nurses to hold a VisaScreen certificate from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. This verifies your education and English proficiency. Apply for it in parallel with your credential evaluation to avoid compounding delays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Patient Care RNs get H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, but nursing roles must qualify as specialty occupations requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in nursing. Employers with strong H-1B visa programs file the petition and pay fees. Because H-1B selection is lottery-based, many employers pursue EB-3 sponsorship instead for a more predictable path to authorization.
Is a BSN required to get sponsored as a Patient Care RN?
For H-1B sponsorship, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is generally required to satisfy the specialty occupation standard. Some employers accept an associate degree for EB-3 green card sponsorship, though a BSN strengthens your application significantly. Nurses with foreign degrees must have their credentials evaluated and deemed equivalent to a U.S. BSN.
How long does EB-3 green card sponsorship take for nurses?
The EB-3 process for nurses typically takes two to five years from job offer to green card, depending heavily on your country of birth. Nurses born in India or China face the longest waits due to per-country backlogs. Filipino and Australian nurses generally see shorter timelines. Your employer's attorney will track your priority date against the Visa Bulletin monthly.
Where can I find Patient Care RN jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters jobs by sponsorship availability, so you're not wasting time on listings that won't support a visa petition. Browsing Patient Care RN roles on Migrate Mate lets you identify which employers have active sponsorship programs and connect with them directly.
Do hospitals sponsor international nurses on TN or E-3 visas?
Canadian and Mexican nurses may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, which lists registered nurses as an eligible profession and allows relatively fast processing. Australian nurses can use the E-3 visa with employer sponsorship, though nursing roles must still meet specialty occupation criteria. Both are faster alternatives to H-1B for eligible nationals.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Patient Care RN jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
