Podiatrist Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Podiatrists qualify for H-1B sponsorship as specialty occupation holders, with most roles filing under SOC code 29-1081. Demand is steady across hospital systems, VA facilities, and private practices, and the 10,500-slot E-3 cap remains well under-subscribed for Australian applicants. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

Verify your DPM meets specialty occupation requirements
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree and the role. A Doctor of Podiatric Medicine satisfies specialty occupation for clinical positions, but document your state licensure and board certification before any employer files.
Target VA and hospital systems with established sponsorship
Federal VA facilities and large hospital networks process podiatry H-1B petitions regularly. Filter your search on Migrate Mate by sponsorship history to surface employers who've navigated the filing process before.
Check prevailing wage tiers before evaluating offers
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up SOC 29-1081 wages for the employer's county. Your offered salary must meet at least the Level I prevailing wage, and offers below that threshold will stall the LCA filing.
Confirm state licensure reciprocity before relocating
Podiatry licensure isn't nationally uniform. Some states require additional exams or supervised hours for foreign-trained DPMs. Resolve your target state's licensing requirements before accepting an offer, since your H-1B petition lists a specific worksite state.
Ask employers about cap-exempt filing options
Podiatrist roles at nonprofits affiliated with teaching hospitals or research institutions may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filing. Cap-exempt petitions can be filed year-round and skip the lottery, which is a material advantage in a specialty with limited slots.
Get your LCA and petition documents organized early
The employer files the LCA with DOL before USCIS sees the I-129. Delays usually happen at the document-gathering stage. Use USCIS guidance to prepare your credential evaluations, license copies, and employment verification letters so nothing holds up the LCA submission.

Find Podiatrist JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a podiatrist qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. Podiatrist roles meet the specialty occupation definition because a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree is the standard minimum requirement for entry-level practice. USCIS has consistently approved H-1B petitions for podiatrists under SOC code 29-1081. Your employer will need to document the degree requirement in the job description and LCA filing.
Can an Australian podiatrist use the E-3 visa instead of the H-1B?
Yes, and the E-3 is often the better path. The annual cap sits at 10,500 slots and has never been fully used, so there's no lottery. You still need a qualifying job offer, a certified LCA, and proof your DPM degree meets specialty occupation standards. The application goes through a U.S. consulate in Australia rather than USCIS.
Which employers sponsor podiatrists for work visas most consistently?
VA medical centers, regional hospital systems, and large multi-specialty group practices file the most podiatry sponsorships. Private solo practices rarely sponsor because the administrative burden is high relative to their size. You can browse podiatrist roles with active sponsorship history on Migrate Mate to narrow your search to employers who've already been through the process.
Does my foreign podiatry degree qualify directly, or do I need a credential evaluation?
Most foreign DPM equivalents require a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before USCIS will accept the degree as meeting specialty occupation. The evaluation confirms your qualification is equivalent to a U.S. Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. Some state licensing boards also require this independently, so getting the evaluation early covers both requirements at once.
What happens to my visa status if my sponsoring employer closes the podiatry clinic?
If your employer terminates your position before your H-1B or E-3 expires, you enter a 60-day grace period under USCIS rules. During that window you can find a new sponsoring employer and have them file a transfer petition. Podiatrists with active state licensure are generally well-positioned to find a new sponsor within that timeframe given steady demand in the field.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Podiatrist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
