Clinical Nurse Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Clinical Nurse
Get your credentials evaluated early
Foreign nursing credentials must be evaluated by a CGFNS-approved organization before you can apply for a U.S. state license. This process takes months, so start before you begin applying to sponsored positions.
Pass the NCLEX-RN before interviewing
Most sponsoring hospitals require NCLEX-RN passage before extending an offer. Completing it in advance removes a major barrier and signals you're ready to work without delay, which strengthens your application significantly.
Target hospitals with existing EB-3 pipelines
Large health systems and teaching hospitals are far more likely to have established EB-3 sponsorship processes. Smaller clinics rarely have the legal infrastructure to manage international nurse sponsorship from scratch.
Understand your visa options beyond H-1B
Nursing roles often qualify for the EB-3 immigrant visa, which bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely. Many international nurses pursue permanent residency directly through employer sponsorship rather than starting on a nonimmigrant visa.
Request a VisaScreen certificate from CGFNS
The VisaScreen certificate is required for any nurse receiving an immigrant or nonimmigrant visa to work in the U.S. Securing it proactively shows employers you understand the process and are ready to proceed quickly.
Be specific about your clinical specialization
ICU, ER, labor and delivery, and oncology nurses attract stronger sponsorship interest than general medical-surgical roles. Highlighting a high-demand specialization in your application increases both your interview rate and sponsorship likelihood.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can clinical nurses get visa sponsorship in the U.S.?
Yes. Clinical nursing is one of the most actively sponsored occupations in the U.S. healthcare system. Hospitals sponsor international nurses through both the H-1B visa nonimmigrant visa and the EB-3 immigrant visa pathway. Because nursing is classified as a specialty occupation requiring at least a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, it meets the foundational requirement for both routes.
Do I need a BSN to qualify for sponsored clinical nurse roles?
A BSN is the standard requirement for H-1B sponsorship, as nursing must qualify as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Some employers will consider an associate degree plus extensive experience for EB-3 sponsorship, but a BSN makes you eligible for a broader range of sponsoring hospitals and strengthens any petition significantly.
How does the EB-3 visa work for international nurses?
The EB-3 is an employment-based immigrant visa that leads directly to a green card. Your employer files a PERM labor certification with the Department of Labor, then an I-140 immigrant petition on your behalf. Processing times vary considerably depending on your country of birth, with Indian and Chinese nationals facing much longer backlogs than applicants from most other countries.
What are approval rates like for H-1B petitions for clinical nurses?
USCIS approval rates for H-1B petitions in nursing occupations are generally strong when the petition is well-documented, but the H-1B lottery remains the primary obstacle. Cap-exempt employers such as nonprofit hospitals affiliated with universities or research institutions can file outside the lottery, which is a significant advantage worth prioritizing when searching for roles on Migrate Mate.
Does my foreign nursing license transfer to the U.S.?
No. You must obtain a U.S. state nursing license through NCLEX-RN to practice legally. Before applying for licensure, most states require a credential evaluation from a CGFNS-approved body confirming your foreign education meets U.S. standards. You'll also need an English proficiency test result in most cases. This licensing process typically takes six to twelve months, so starting early is critical.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Clinical Nurse jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
