Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an Emergency Department Registered Nurse
Target hospitals with existing visa programs
Large health systems like Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and Kaiser Permanente actively sponsor nurses. Check their career pages for international recruitment programs and designated visa coordinator roles.
Complete NCLEX-RN before applying
Most employers require active RN licensure before sponsorship consideration. Pass NCLEX-RN and obtain state licensing first to demonstrate immediate work eligibility and strengthen your application.
Highlight critical care experience
Emergency departments value trauma, cardiac, and intensive care backgrounds. Emphasize specialized certifications like ACLS, PALS, or TNCC to differentiate yourself from general nursing candidates.
Consider rural and underserved areas
Hospitals in rural locations or underserved communities often have stronger sponsorship incentives due to staffing challenges. These facilities may offer faster processing and additional relocation support.
Network through nursing organizations
Join the Emergency Nurses Association and attend conferences. Many hospitals recruit internationally at nursing events and maintain relationships with overseas nursing programs for direct pipeline hiring.
Prepare for skills assessments
Employers may require clinical competency evaluations or simulation testing. Practice emergency protocols and familiarize yourself with U.S. healthcare standards to demonstrate immediate productivity in high-pressure environments.

Find Emergency Department Registered Nurse JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does emergency nursing qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B visas?
Yes, registered nursing typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in nursing or related field. However, some USCIS decisions have been inconsistent for nursing roles, so employers often strengthen petitions by emphasizing the specialized emergency department requirements and advanced clinical skills needed.
What degree requirements apply to emergency department nurses seeking sponsorship?
You need a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or foreign equivalent, plus RN licensure in the state where you'll work. Some employers accept Associate Degree in Nursing with significant emergency experience, but BSN greatly improves H-1B approval odds.
How to find Emergency Department Registered Nurse jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Emergency Department Registered Nurse positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international healthcare professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus your search on major hospital systems, trauma centers, and academic medical facilities that commonly sponsor H-1B, TN, or EB-3 visas for specialized nursing roles. These healthcare organizations frequently need experienced emergency nurses and are willing to support visa applications for qualified international candidates.
How long does H-1B processing take for nursing positions?
Standard processing takes 6-8 months from petition filing. Many healthcare employers use premium processing for 15-day decisions due to staffing urgency. Filing typically occurs during the April H-1B season for October start dates, though cap-exempt hospitals can file year-round.
Are emergency department nurses eligible for cap-exempt H-1B positions?
Yes, if employed by nonprofit hospitals, medical schools, or affiliated research institutions. These employers can file H-1B petitions year-round without lottery participation. For-profit hospitals must compete in the annual H-1B cap lottery with limited slots.
What happens if I need to change hospitals while on an H-1B visa?
The new hospital must file a new H-1B petition before you can start working. You can begin employment once USCIS receives the petition if you maintain valid H-1B status. Emergency nursing roles often have good portability due to consistent demand across healthcare systems.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Emergency Department Registered Nurse jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
