Platform Engineering Manager Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Platform Engineering Manager roles attract strong H-1B and O-1 sponsorship because employers treat infrastructure leadership as a specialty occupation requiring a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Most openings are at mid-to-large tech companies with established immigration programs. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

And every solution is backed by real humans who actually give a sh*t about helping restaurants succeed.
- Named the #1 Restaurant POS by G2 (Fall 2025), based on ratings from real users
- Rated the top-rated point-of-sale (POS) for restaurants, bars, retail, and small businesses by Capterra users
- Awarded Great Places to Work and Built In’s Best Workplaces for multiple years running
We move fast, care hard, and fight for independent restaurant operators to do what they love, and love doing it. If you’re looking to make an impact with heart and hustle, SpotOn is the place for you.
The Client Environments team is the bridge between SpotOn’s cloud and the physical restaurant network — managing the routers, access points, POS Android devices, and monitoring systems that keep restaurants online. We treat merchant sites as first-class infrastructure, applying platform engineering discipline to field networks.
We’re seeking a Platform Engineering Manager to lead this evolution — combining technical leadership, operational rigor, and systems thinking to turn reactive support into reliable, observable, and self-healing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor engineers across Network and Android (Elo) systems — building a strong culture of ownership and reliability.
- Drive GitOps adoption for network and device configuration, ensuring deployments are consistent, testable, and reversible.
- Oversee MDM and device lifecycle management (Elo tablets, Android handhelds), ensuring clean provisioning and policy enforcement.
- Run the operational loop: stay close to client incidents, analyze recurring issues, and drive root-cause elimination through system changes, automation, and better visibility.
- Collaborate with Core Services (Device Registry, MDM, Sidecar) and NOC to improve observability, alerting, and response workflows.
- Standardize configurations and rollout models (base + overlays) to eliminate variance across restaurant networks.
- Design for resilience: enable cellular failover, LTE monitoring, and automated recovery patterns through controllers.
- Own service quality metrics — uptime, response time, issue recurrence — and report progress on reliability improvements.
What Success Looks Like
- Merchant networks and devices are fully managed through GitOps, with versioned configuration and clear audit trails.
- Elo device management (via MDM) is automated, observable, and zero-touch.
- On-site visits and repeat network incidents drop significantly due to systemic fixes.
- The team is operationally excellent — closing the loop between monitoring, alerts, and proactive resolution.
Client environments are treated with the same reliability, observability, and governance as SpotOn’s cloud infrastructure.
Compensation:
- Our base pay range is $170,000 - $210,000 for this role
- Please note the salary range listed is just one component of a competitive compensation package which includes a company stock plan
- Offers will be reflective of the candidate’s location and experience.
Benefits:
At SpotOn, we put people above everything else. We’re known for our innovative software and technology solutions, but we stand out because of the hard-working humans behind the tech. We can’t take care of our clients without taking care of our employees first, and that’s why we invest in you with a competitive benefits package which includes:
- Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance
- 401k with company match
- RSUs
- Paid vacation, 10 company holidays, sick time, and volunteer time off
- Employee Resource Groups to build community and inclusion at work
- Monthly cell phone and internet stipend
- Tuition reimbursement for up to $2,000 per calendar year to assist with your professional development
We will never ask candidates to pay fees, purchase equipment, or share sensitive personal or financial information during the hiring process. All legitimate communication from our recruiting team will come from an official company email address (@spoton.com). If something seems suspicious, please contact us at careers@spoton.com.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Platform Engineering Manager
Target companies with dedicated immigration counsel
Large tech firms and well-funded scaleups typically have in-house immigration teams or retained law firms, which makes H-1B sponsorship faster and more reliable. Smaller companies often lack the infrastructure to sponsor management-level engineering roles.
Frame your degree as directly relevant to the role
USCIS approves Platform Engineering Manager petitions most cleanly when your degree is in computer science, software engineering, or information systems. A general business degree paired with strong engineering experience is harder to defend during a Request for Evidence.
Document your team leadership and technical scope
Sponsoring employers must show the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Concrete evidence of platform ownership, headcount managed, and infrastructure decisions strengthens the petition and reduces the chance of USCIS questioning the management-to-technical ratio.
Ask about cap-exempt sponsorship if you're in academia or research
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government-affiliated organizations are exempt from the H-1B annual cap. Platform engineering leadership roles at these organizations can be filed any time of year without waiting for the lottery.
Consider the O-1A if you have a strong professional track record
Platform Engineering Managers with patents, published work, speaking engagements at major conferences, or recognized contributions to open-source infrastructure may qualify for the O-1A, which has no cap and no lottery requirement.

Does a Platform Engineering Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS evaluates whether the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Platform Engineering Manager roles typically require a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline, and that direct connection is what satisfies the specialty occupation standard. Hybrid roles that lean heavily toward general people management with minimal technical scope carry more risk during adjudication.
What degree do I need for an employer to sponsor my H-1B as a Platform Engineering Manager?
A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a closely related field is the strongest foundation. Degrees in unrelated fields create complications even if you have years of hands-on platform experience. If your degree field doesn't match, three years of specialized work experience can substitute for each year of missing education, but this pathway requires more documentation and attorney support.
Are Platform Engineering Manager roles common among H-1B sponsoring employers?
Yes. Infrastructure and platform leadership is consistently among the more actively sponsored engineering management categories, particularly at cloud-native companies, enterprise software firms, and large-scale SaaS businesses. These employers file high volumes of H-1B petitions annually and typically have established processes. Migrate Mate lists Platform Engineering Manager openings specifically from employers with verified sponsorship history, which narrows your search considerably.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new Platform Engineering Manager role mid-cycle?
Yes. H-1B portability allows you to change employers and begin working for the new company as soon as they file a transfer petition, without waiting for approval, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer still needs to file a fresh Labor Condition Application and I-129 petition. The specialty occupation analysis restarts, so the new role needs to meet the same technical degree requirements.
Does my seniority as a manager reduce my chances of H-1B approval compared to an individual contributor engineer?
Not inherently, but the risk profile is different. USCIS scrutinizes management roles more carefully to confirm that day-to-day duties require a specialized degree rather than general administrative oversight. Platform Engineering Managers whose work involves hands-on architecture decisions, technical roadmaps, and direct systems ownership fare better than those whose role is primarily headcount and budget management. Clear job duty documentation from the employer is critical.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Platform Engineering Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
