Frame your degree as a requirement, not a preference
Employers must show USCIS the role requires a specific bachelor's degree. Highlight in your application that your marketing or business degree directly supports the job duties, not just that it's preferred or helpful.
Target SaaS and enterprise tech employers first
Companies like Salesforce, HubSpot, and Adobe have established H-1B sponsorship pipelines and legal infrastructure. Smaller startups may want to sponsor but lack the HR systems to execute it efficiently and on time.
Emphasize quantifiable product launch outcomes
USCIS specialty occupation decisions hinge on degree-level complexity. Demonstrating that your work involves pricing analysis, go-to-market strategy, and competitive research signals the theoretical depth the classification requires.
Raise sponsorship early in the process
Asking about visa sponsorship at the offer stage wastes everyone's time if the employer won't sponsor. Mention it after a strong first or second-round interview, when genuine mutual interest has been established and the conversation is productive.
Understand your LCA timing before you accept
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor before your H-1B petition can be submitted. Confirm the employer knows this requirement and has legal counsel lined up before signing anything.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Not every job posting that welcomes international applicants will actually sponsor a visa. Migrate Mate filters for employers with documented sponsorship history, saving you from pursuing roles that will stall at the offer stage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Product Marketing Specialist role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, provided the employer can demonstrate the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as marketing, business, or communications. Generic postings that accept any degree in any field can struggle to meet the specialty occupation standard. Roles with well-defined analytical and strategic responsibilities, common in SaaS and enterprise tech, tend to have stronger petitions.
What degree do I need for an employer to sponsor my H-1B as a Product Marketing Specialist?
Most successful H-1B visa petitions for this role cite a bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, or a closely related field. A degree in an unrelated discipline weakens the specialty occupation argument unless the employer can show a direct connection between the field of study and the role's core duties. USCIS scrutinizes degree-to-job alignment closely for marketing roles.
How hard is it for employers to sponsor a Product Marketing Specialist on an H-1B?
The main obstacle is the annual H-1B lottery, not the petition itself. If selected, approval rates for specialty occupation marketing roles are generally reasonable when the job duties and degree requirement are well documented. The bigger challenge is that only about one in three registrations is selected in a typical year, so timing and employer preparation matter as much as eligibility.
Can I work as a Product Marketing Specialist on a TN visa?
Canadian and Mexican nationals can qualify under the TN visa category if the role is structured as a management consultant or similar qualifying profession. Pure product marketing titles are not listed explicitly in the TN schedule, so the employer's job description needs to map the duties to a recognized TN profession. An immigration attorney should review the offer letter before filing.
Where can I find Product Marketing Specialist jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the best starting point. It lists Product Marketing Specialist roles specifically filtered for employers who sponsor work visas, so you're not spending time applying to companies that will decline at the offer stage. Filtering by sponsorship history up front significantly improves the efficiency of your search, which matters a lot if you're working against an OPT or grace period deadline.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Product Marketing Specialist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
