Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Right of Way Agent Jobs
Target infrastructure and utility companies
Focus on engineering firms, utility companies, pipeline operators, and transportation authorities. These employers regularly need sponsored professionals for large-scale infrastructure projects requiring specialized property acquisition expertise.
Emphasize specialized legal knowledge requirements
Highlight roles requiring knowledge of eminent domain law, property valuation methods, environmental regulations, or zoning compliance. This specialized expertise strengthens the H-1B specialty occupation argument beyond basic negotiation skills.
Look for project-based contract opportunities
Many right of way projects are contract-based with specific timelines. Contract positions can lead to permanent sponsorship opportunities once you prove your value on major infrastructure initiatives.
Consider related engineering support roles
Positions like Right of Way Engineer or Land Acquisition Specialist often have clearer H-1B qualification paths. These hybrid roles combine property expertise with technical engineering requirements.
Network through professional associations
Join the International Right of Way Association (IRWA) and attend local chapter meetings. Many sponsoring employers recruit through these professional networks for specialized infrastructure talent.
Highlight GIS and mapping technology skills
Experience with Geographic Information Systems, surveying software, or property mapping tools strengthens your candidacy. Technical skills complement negotiation expertise and support specialty occupation requirements.

Find Right of Way Agent JobsFrequently Asked Questions
What degree is required for H-1B sponsorship as a Right of Way Agent?
Most positions require a bachelor's degree in real estate, urban planning, business administration, or related field. Some employers accept degrees in geography, economics, or engineering with relevant property acquisition experience. The key is demonstrating how your education relates to specialized right of way work.
How to find Right of Way Agent jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Right of Way Agent jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus on infrastructure companies, utility firms, pipeline operators, and engineering consultancies that frequently sponsor H-1B and TN visas for Right of Way Agents. These employers typically need professionals experienced in land acquisition, easement negotiation, and property rights management for their expansion projects.
Do Right of Way Agents qualify for H-1B specialty occupation requirements?
Yes, when positions require specialized knowledge of property law, valuation methods, environmental regulations, or complex negotiation strategies. Roles involving eminent domain proceedings, utility easements, or large infrastructure projects typically meet specialty occupation standards through their technical complexity.
Which industries most commonly sponsor Right of Way Agents?
Pipeline companies, electric utilities, telecommunications firms, state transportation departments, and engineering consultancies frequently sponsor this role. These sectors have ongoing infrastructure needs requiring specialized property acquisition expertise that justifies H-1B sponsorship for qualified international candidates.
Can property management experience substitute for formal right of way education?
Extensive experience in property acquisition, real estate development, or land use planning can strengthen your application, but most H-1B positions still require a relevant bachelor's degree. Focus on roles where your experience demonstrates specialized knowledge beyond general property management.
What makes a Right of Way Agent position more likely to get H-1B approval?
Positions requiring knowledge of federal regulations, environmental compliance, eminent domain law, or complex valuation methods have stronger approval odds. Roles involving multi-million dollar acquisitions, pipeline projects, or transportation infrastructure demonstrate the specialized expertise USCIS looks for in specialty occupations.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Right of Way Agent jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
