Target enterprise employers, not small consultancies
Large companies running Salesforce at scale, think financial services, healthcare systems, and Fortune 500 retailers, sponsor H-1B petitions far more consistently than small Salesforce consulting shops, which often lack the resources or legal infrastructure to file.
Get Salesforce certified before applying
Salesforce Administrator, Platform Developer I, or Architect certifications directly strengthen your H-1B specialty occupation case. They signal a specialized skill set that goes beyond general software work and helps your employer justify the petition to USCIS.
Frame your degree around the role, not the platform
Computer Science, Information Systems, or Software Engineering degrees are the cleanest match for Salesforce Engineer roles. If your degree is in a different field, document how your coursework and experience directly relate to the technical requirements of the position.
Look for roles with Apex and Lightning Web Component requirements
Job postings requiring custom Apex development, LWC builds, or complex API integrations tend to attract stronger sponsorship commitment from employers. These technical requirements anchor the specialty occupation argument and reduce the risk of a USCIS challenge.
Ask about the employer's H-1B filing history early
Before investing heavily in an interview process, ask whether the company has sponsored H-1B visas before and whether they work with outside immigration counsel. Experienced sponsors move faster and make fewer procedural errors that delay your start date.

Find Salesforce Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Salesforce Engineer role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes. Salesforce Engineer roles consistently qualify as H-1B specialty occupations because they require at least a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. USCIS has approved H-1B petitions for Salesforce-specific roles across industries including financial services, healthcare, and enterprise technology. Roles involving custom Apex development, system architecture, or large-scale CRM integration carry the strongest technical foundation for the specialty occupation argument.
Do I need a Computer Science degree specifically to get sponsored as a Salesforce Engineer?
Not necessarily, but your degree needs to relate directly to the role. Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, and Business Information Technology all work well. If your degree is in an unrelated field, three years of relevant work experience can substitute for one year of education under H-1B rules, which means significant Salesforce implementation experience can fill a degree gap if documented properly.
How do Salesforce certifications affect my sponsorship chances?
Certifications from Salesforce, such as Platform Developer I or II, Application Architect, or System Architect, strengthen your H-1B petition by demonstrating specialized knowledge that a generalist software background alone doesn't convey. They aren't legally required, but they help your employer build a more defensible specialty occupation argument and signal to hiring managers that sponsoring you is a lower-risk decision.
Which types of employers are most likely to sponsor Salesforce Engineers?
Large enterprise employers with in-house Salesforce teams are the most reliable sponsors: financial institutions, hospital systems, insurance companies, and major retailers that run Salesforce as core business infrastructure. Salesforce consulting firms sometimes sponsor, but their willingness varies significantly. You can browse verified sponsoring employers hiring Salesforce Engineers on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for companies open to visa sponsorship.
Can I switch Salesforce Engineer jobs while on an H-1B?
Yes, using H-1B portability. Once your H-1B has been approved and you've worked for your initial employer for at least 180 days, you can start working for a new employer as soon as they file an H-1B transfer petition, without waiting for approval. The new role must still qualify as a specialty occupation. If your I-140 is approved and more than 180 days old, you may also be able to keep your priority date when changing employers.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Salesforce Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
