Target companies with existing partnership functions
Companies that already have a partnerships team are far more likely to sponsor. They understand the role's value, have sponsored before, and won't need convincing that a Director of Strategic Partnerships justifies immigration investment.
Frame your network as a business asset
Sponsorship decisions are easier when you can show measurable deal value. Quantify your existing partner relationships, pipeline contributions, and revenue tied to past partnerships to make the ROI case concrete for hiring managers and legal teams.
Position yourself for L-1A if you're transferring internally
If your current employer has a U.S. office, an intracompany transfer on an L-1A visa bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely. You need one year of managerial experience abroad within the past three years to qualify.
Consider the O-1A for candidates with industry recognition
Directors who have spoken at major industry conferences, led high-profile partnerships, or received professional awards may qualify for the O-1A. This visa has no lottery and no annual cap, making it a strong alternative to H-1B.
Negotiate sponsorship during the offer stage, not after
Raise visa requirements before accepting an offer. Once compensation terms are agreed and the offer is signed, revisiting sponsorship becomes harder. A direct question about the company's H-1B history signals preparedness, not risk.
Use Migrate Mate to find roles with verified sponsorship history
Migrate Mate curates Director of Strategic Partnerships roles from employers with confirmed visa sponsorship track records, so you spend time applying to companies that will actually see your immigration situation as workable, not a deal-breaker.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Strategic Partnerships qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS generally accepts the role when the job description requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as business, marketing, or a related discipline. Generic postings that list any degree as acceptable can create complications, so the employer's job description language matters significantly during the H-1B visa petition process.
What visa types do employers typically sponsor for this role?
H-1B is the most common path, but Directors of Strategic Partnerships also see L-1A sponsorship for intracompany transfers, O-1A for candidates with demonstrated industry recognition, and TN visas for Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying business categories. The right visa depends on your nationality, prior employment history, and the employer's existing legal infrastructure.
Which industries sponsor the most Director of Strategic Partnerships roles?
Technology companies, particularly SaaS and enterprise software businesses, sponsor this role most frequently. Financial services, healthcare technology, and digital media companies also have strong sponsorship rates. Series B and later-stage startups with legal budgets tend to move fastest because they've established immigration processes for prior hires. Browse verified opportunities on Migrate Mate to identify active sponsors by industry.
How does seniority affect H-1B approval odds for this title?
Senior titles like Director actually help. USCIS scrutinizes whether the role genuinely requires a specific degree, and Director-level partnerships roles typically involve complex contract negotiation, cross-functional strategy, and executive stakeholder management that supports the specialty occupation argument. Approval rates are generally solid when the employer's legal team drafts a strong support letter tied to the role's actual responsibilities.
Can I switch employers on an H-1B as a Director of Strategic Partnerships?
Yes. H-1B portability lets you start working for a new sponsor as soon as the new employer files a transfer petition, as long as your prior H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer files a fresh Form I-129. Director roles are common enough that most experienced immigration attorneys handle these transfers routinely, and approval turnaround with premium processing is typically two to three weeks.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Director Of Strategic Partnerships jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
