How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Service Delivery Manager
Target IT services and consulting firms first
Large IT services companies like Infosys, Wipro, TCS, and Cognizant file high volumes of H-1B petitions annually and have established sponsorship pipelines for Service Delivery Manager roles. They're among the most consistent sponsors in this category.
Tie your degree directly to the role
USCIS requires a specific degree field for specialty occupation approval. A degree in IT, computer science, business information systems, or engineering management aligns most cleanly. General business degrees can work but require stronger supporting documentation from the employer.
ITIL certification strengthens your petition
ITIL Foundation or Practitioner certification signals specialized knowledge that supports a specialty occupation argument. Include it prominently in your resume and ensure the employer references it in the LCA and support letter when filing your petition.
L-1 is a realistic path if you're already with a multinational
If you're employed by a global company and managing service delivery in another country, an intracompany L-1A or L-1B transfer may be available. This bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and has faster processing for qualifying managerial roles.
Highlight cross-functional scope in your offer letter
USCIS scrutinizes Service Delivery Manager roles for specialty occupation status. An offer letter that specifies technical oversight, SLA management, and systems integration responsibilities frames the role as requiring specialized knowledge, not general management.
Ask about sponsorship timeline before accepting an offer
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year, with an October 1 start date at the earliest. Confirm whether the employer will file with premium processing and whether they cover legal fees before you commit to the role.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Service Delivery Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but it's not automatic. USCIS requires the role to normally require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Service Delivery Manager petitions are more likely to be approved when the job duties emphasize technical systems oversight, ITIL-based service frameworks, or IT infrastructure management rather than general client relationship work. Employers with a strong support letter and clear degree requirement in the job description have a materially better approval record.
Which visa types are most commonly used to sponsor Service Delivery Managers?
H-1B is the most common path for new hires. L-1A is frequently used for internal transfers from multinational companies, particularly when the role involves managing a team, since L-1A covers managers and executives. TN visa eligibility doesn't apply to this title. O-1 is possible but rare, as it requires demonstrating extraordinary ability, which is a high bar for most service delivery professionals.
What degree field is most likely to support a Service Delivery Manager H-1B petition?
Information technology, computer science, management information systems, or engineering management are the strongest matches. Business administration degrees can qualify if the employer's support letter connects the specific business coursework to the technical demands of the role. A degree in an unrelated field, combined with years of experience, is harder to defend under the specialty occupation standard but isn't automatically disqualifying if framed carefully.
How can I find Service Delivery Manager jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, which saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship after the fact. IT services firms and enterprise software companies account for the majority of sponsored postings in this category, so filtering by industry is a useful starting point when browsing on Migrate Mate.
Can a Service Delivery Manager on H-1B change employers mid-status?
Yes. H-1B portability allows you to start working for a new employer as soon as they file an H-1B transfer petition on your behalf, provided your current H-1B was lawfully approved and you haven't fallen out of status. You don't need to wait for the new petition to be approved before starting. The new employer must file before your current status expires, and the role must still qualify as a specialty occupation.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Service Delivery Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
