- Utilize expertise in battery manufacturing processes (e.g., electrode coating, calendaring, winding/stacking, electrolyte filling, formation, aging, pack assembly, welding, BMS integration, safety testing) to assess supplier capabilities, resolve capacity constraints, and validate cost dependencies
- Support negotiations for purchase agreements, NRE, capacity reservation, and long-term supply contracts to secure optimal terms and ensure supplier accountability for program deliverables across the battery supply base
- Champion cost reduction programs utilizing should-cost models, raw material indexing (Li, Co, Ni, graphite), and data analytics tailored to cell and pack manufacturing
- Create and implement contingency plans for scalability challenges, lead times, single-source dependencies, raw material volatility, and geopolitical risks in the battery supply chain
- Develop systems for measuring supplier performance (quality, delivery, cost, technology, responsiveness) and conduct regular business reviews with battery cell and pack suppliers
- Travel (20-30%) to supplier sites, and work across time zones to support global battery supply chain activities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, supply chain management, business, or equivalent practical experience
- 7+ years of sourcing experience in fast-paced consumer electronics, automotive, or an equivalent industry, with direct exposure to battery cell and/or pack sourcing
- Experience ramping high-volume consumer electronics or wearable products with battery content
- Working knowledge in all or any of the following areas: lithium-ion cell chemistry and design, electrode manufacturing, cell assembly and formation, pack/module integration, BMS/BMU, safety standards (UN 38.3, UL, IEC), and related battery manufacturing processes
- Experience in supplier evaluation/selection, should-cost modeling, contract negotiation, and supply base management for batteries or comparable high-complexity commodities
- Experience with cost drivers and experience building bottoms-up or should-cost models for battery cells and packs (including raw materials, bill-of-materials, and capex amortization)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel to run supply chain modeling and analyses
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
- Experience working with contract manufacturers, ODMs, OEMs, and pack houses in the battery domain
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Experience leading or mentoring sourcing teams or cross-functional commodity pods
- Established relationships with Battery Pack, Cell, SIP/BMU, and raw material suppliers
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)

Emphasize Strategic Decision-Making
Highlight complex sourcing strategies, supplier risk assessment, and cost optimization initiatives. USCIS looks for roles requiring specialized business judgment, not routine procurement tasks.
Document Degree-Job Connection
Show how your business, supply chain, or economics degree directly applies to vendor analysis, contract negotiation, and market research, core specialty occupation requirements.
Target Mid-Size to Large Companies
Companies with 500+ employees typically have more complex sourcing needs and established sponsorship processes. They're more likely to demonstrate specialty occupation requirements.
Showcase Industry-Specific Knowledge
Manufacturing, healthcare, and tech companies often need sourcing managers with specialized regulatory knowledge or technical product understanding, strengthening visa applications significantly.
Highlight Cross-Functional Leadership
Demonstrate experience managing supplier relationships across engineering, quality, and finance teams. This shows the analytical and leadership complexity USCIS expects.
Avoid Generic Procurement Roles
Skip positions focused primarily on purchase order processing or routine vendor management. Target strategic sourcing roles requiring analytical skills and business expertise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Sourcing Managers qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, when the role requires specialized knowledge in supply chain strategy, vendor analysis, or procurement optimization. The position must require a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or related field. Companies need to demonstrate the role involves complex decision-making beyond routine purchasing activities.
How to find Sourcing Manager jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Sourcing Manager positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international candidates with sponsoring employers. Focus your search on manufacturing companies, retail corporations, and supply chain organizations that commonly hire international talent for sourcing roles. These positions are often eligible for H-1B visa, L-1 visa, or O-1 visas depending on your experience level and the company's requirements.
What degree do I need for Sourcing Manager visa sponsorship?
Most successful applications require a bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, economics, or industrial engineering. Some companies accept related fields like operations management or finance if combined with relevant sourcing experience. The degree must directly relate to strategic procurement responsibilities.
Which visa types work for Sourcing Manager positions?
H-1B is most common for strategic sourcing roles. Canadians and Mexicans can use TN visa status under the 'Management Consultant' category if focused on procurement strategy. Australians may qualify for E-3 visas. L-1 transfers work for managers with specialized company knowledge.
Do entry-level sourcing positions qualify for sponsorship?
Entry-level positions rarely qualify unless they involve complex analytical work like supplier risk modeling or category strategy development. Most successful sponsorships involve mid-level roles requiring 2-3 years of experience in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, or vendor management with measurable business impact.
What industries sponsor Sourcing Managers most often?
Manufacturing companies, especially automotive and aerospace, frequently sponsor due to complex supplier requirements. Technology companies need sourcing managers for component procurement. Healthcare and pharmaceutical companies sponsor for regulatory-compliant sourcing expertise. Consulting firms also sponsor for client-facing sourcing strategy roles.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Sourcing Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
