Travel Registered Nurse Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Travel registered nurses can qualify for H-1B visa, EB-3, or TN visa (Canadian applicants) visa sponsorship, but agency-sponsored roles require careful vetting. Most sponsoring agencies offer permanent placement pathways alongside travel contracts, and nursing shortages mean sponsorship demand is high. Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Travel Registered Nurse
Understand the EB-3 pathway before you start
Most internationally sponsored travel nurses ultimately pursue permanent residence through EB-3. The PERM labor certification process takes 12 to 18 months minimum. Starting early, ideally before your first contract ends, prevents gaps in authorization and delays your green card timeline significantly.
Verify your nursing credentials are NCLEX-RN equivalent
USCIS and state licensing boards require credential evaluation for foreign-trained nurses. Get your degree assessed by CGFNS or an equivalent evaluator before applying. Delays in credential recognition are the single most common reason international nursing sponsorship timelines extend beyond initial estimates.
Confirm state licensure before accepting a travel contract
Travel nurses move between states, so your sponsoring employer's location and your assignment location may differ. Compact Nurse Licensure Agreement states allow multi-state practice, but non-compact states require separate licensure. Clarify which states your contract covers before signing anything.
Ask whether the sponsorship is tied to your employer or portable
Some agencies sponsor your visa but tie your status to their specific contracts. If the agency loses a hospital client and your assignment ends, your work authorization may be at risk. Understand the portability provisions in your sponsorship agreement before committing to a multi-year contract.
Check NCLEX pass requirements for your visa category
H-1B and EB-3 petitions for registered nurses require passing the NCLEX-RN. TN status for Canadian nurses also requires licensure in the U.S. state of employment. Sponsorship timelines should account for NCLEX preparation and scheduling, which can add one to three months to your start date.

Find Travel Registered Nurse JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Which visa types support travel registered nurse sponsorship?
The most common are H-1B and EB-3 immigrant visas. H-1B requires a bachelor's degree in nursing and a sponsoring employer willing to file. EB-3 is the primary permanent residence pathway for nurses and requires PERM labor certification. Canadian nurses can also qualify under TN status, which is faster but doesn't lead to a green card.
Does a three-year nursing degree qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
It depends on the credential evaluation. USCIS requires the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree for H-1B specialty occupation status. A three-year nursing diploma from certain countries may not satisfy that threshold without supplementary coursework or a positive evaluation from a recognized credential assessment organization. Get your degree evaluated by CGFNS before assuming you qualify.
How long does it take to get sponsored as a travel nurse?
H-1B sponsorship takes 3 to 6 months with regular processing, or 2 to 4 weeks with premium processing. EB-3 PERM labor certification adds 12 to 18 months on top of USCIS adjudication. Factor in NCLEX scheduling and credential evaluation, and most internationally trained nurses should plan for 6 to 24 months from application to authorization depending on the visa category.
Can a travel nurse change agencies without losing visa status?
For H-1B holders, changing to a new sponsoring agency requires the new employer to file a transfer petition before you start work. AC21 portability allows you to change employers after an I-140 has been approved for 180 days in the EB-3 process. Switching agencies mid-contract without a filed transfer petition can create unlawful presence issues.
Where can I find travel nursing jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters specifically for visa-sponsoring employers, which saves significant time compared to screening general job postings manually. Many travel nursing agencies post sponsored positions there. Search by role and filter for sponsorship to identify agencies with active immigration programs rather than those that list sponsorship as a possibility but rarely follow through.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Travel Registered Nurse jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
