Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts vocational rehabilitation counselors are expected to hold or be eligible for the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential, awarded by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification after passing the CRC examination. Most positions require a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or a closely related field from a CACREP-accredited program. Massachusetts does not issue a separate state license for this role, so the CRC is the primary professional credential that distinguishes candidates in the hiring process.
Which companies hire vocational rehabilitation counselors in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts vocational rehabilitation counselor roles are posted by Whittier Health Network, Life Care Centers of America, and VIABILITY and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Massachusetts's strong network of nonprofit disability service organizations, community behavioral health centers, and state agencies like the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission makes it one of the more active markets for this profession in New England.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs?
Bradford, Westborough, and Acton are the Massachusetts cities with the most vocational rehabilitation counselor openings. Boston anchors demand through its dense concentration of hospital systems, behavioral health networks, and state agency offices, while Worcester and Springfield generate consistent openings from regional nonprofits, community health centers, and branch offices of statewide disability service providers that serve the Central and Western Massachusetts populations.
Are there remote vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're limited. About 0% of vocational rehabilitation counselor openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of much of the work. The parts of the role most suited to remote delivery are intake interviews, vocational assessment reviews, career planning sessions, and documentation, while job development visits and supported employment coaching typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a supervised internship or practicum placement during a master's program, since the CRC examination itself requires documented supervised experience. Large Massachusetts employers including the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission and regional community health centers routinely accept graduate interns and post entry-level case coordinator roles that serve as a bridge into the counselor track. Candidates coming from adjacent roles like disability support specialist, job coach, or benefits counselor can often transition directly, and completing the CRC exam early, even before full credentialing hours, signals commitment to hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings in one place. Search the listings to find roles that match your credentials and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
